Default How would these work for gobo panels?

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...l-fiber-2-inch

I would use two per panel, covered in cloth on some sort of home made frame and support.

Have you looked into mineral wool insulation from your local home improvement store? It is far less expensive and commonly used for this purpose. At Home Depot 10 3"x1"x48" batts are about $45. There's a lot of information on line about building the panels. BTW, Rockwool is one of a number of brands.

It's very much overpriced for what it is and they're not even specific about what it is so it may not be the best stuff for the purpose. Search around for Roxul Rockboard 60. You can get it cheaper, it's clean to work with, and it's what Bobby Owsinski is recommending.

Here are two places I found quickly. It comes in various thicknesses. For gobos, you'll want 4 inches. If you decide to make a cloud, two inches with an air space above is usually the recommendation.

Acoustimac

The stuff you get at HD or Lowe's isn't the same--not as dense. You'd need a lot thicker panel for the same effect.

As Jim says that's not a very good price for an unknown product. If you can't find a supplier near you (Rockwool 60/80 or OC703 typically has to be ordered from a supply house that sells to the public), you can mail-order DIY stuff from the big acoustical companies: GIK, ATS or Acoustimac. For example, 4 panels of Rockboard 60 (probably similar to that Auralex stuff) is just $36.64 at ATS Acoustics.

Don't forget to add shipping; it can be significant for large, bulky items like that.

I’d look for a local source for Roxul rockboard 60 or 80 for DIY gobos. Some commercial insulation supply companies will sell direct to the public. Also, some
Do It Best Hardware stores will order it in. Pricing is a lot cheaper from these sources and shipping can get pricey from the common sources.

Why bother? Price is about the same when you factor in other materials you will need.
I do suggest 4" thick panels.

Not always in stock but once ordered you can have it in a week or so. It’s less then half the price, And it is 3 inches as compared to 2

Hey Barry.....this is the stuff I use...........these folks had it in 4" thick panels when I purchased some years ago. I also used their frames which have worked out well.

Not the same as the commercial Rockwool products (spec sheets). Safe'n'Sound is only 2.4 lb/cu ft density; Rockwool 60 is 6lb, 80 is 8lb. You need more of a less-dense product to achieve the same result.

That said, less dense and thicker can make for better bass absorption. I used 6" of Safe'n'Sound for my corner treatments, placed diagonally across the corner to leave air space behind.

There's a bit of confusion here about what gobos are for.

Gobos are little movable walls for separation, and for that you need mass. Secondarily, you can give them a surface that's absorptive or reflective or in-between. Or one side live and the other dead.

You can make free-standing acoustic treatment panels, I guess, but most people wouldn't call those gobos.

TB Way overpriced for what they are, basically mineral wool

Look into these instead, they are designed to fit into a 2 by 4 wall on 24" centers they are aprox 23 " wide, 47" long , and 3 1/2 to 4 inches thick

Default Not Auralex

Aloha Barry, (OOOOPPPS! J-Doug!)

Go with OC 703! It's what pro studio's use.

It was so easy for a schlubs like me to make 22 4"x2'x4' broadband absorbers over a few years. Worked well in every space I applied it.

I sent you all the detailed treatment info.

Auralex is not the answer

Not me Chris! It's TBMan (Barry) asking! I'm going with the GIK prefab 4" free standing panels. https://www.gikacoustics.com/product...and-bass-trap/

Ok, so basically I would take this, wrap it in a cloth and then somehow frame it, I guess with a 1x4 frame and then do a stand for it. Thanks.

One option, if you're doing the portable "booth" on the floor with 3 or 4 panels:

https://www.acoustimac.com/acoustic-...-frame-48x24x4

These have worked well for me.....I store in our dry basement when not in use. (I have 3).
