Smile Thanks all

Tom, I am sorry we will need to miss the BIGGER party, too !
But we will revel in it here in the Custom Shop, this year. John tells me this one is fortunate to have a sound port. It will double as a sniffing port!

Nemoman, I do believe I have gotten John to build me the most comfy Jumbo on the planet!!! My goal is a HUGE Stratocaster. Hahaha

Thanks Treenewt!!! I agree for sure. This is turning out even prettier than I anticipated. There is enough figure in this Spanish Cedar to almost look like Koa or Maple... yum! And no tone wood is lighter in weight, so my shoulder will be happy!

Have Fun gang!

Paul

Smile Excited for sure

Thanks Kenneth! Yes I am pretty stoked!!!

The full Pablo Package of features is quite a handful. I am eternally grateful to John for his willingness to go outside the box! (And inside, too! Haha)

The downside is there is NOTHING to compare for the comfort and not much for TONE!

A splendid weekend to all and to all a fine Christmas and COOL YULE

Paul

Hey printer2, please do not feel diminished! We only want to elevate folks !!!

What a nice surprise first thing in my morning.

As always, Tony knocks it out of the park...

I have been LOVING having the OVERLORD back. This will be BIGGER for sure, and I wager it will sound outstanding.

FYI, I recently compared my JK Customs to a couple of BIG, extremely high-end builds by very well known top shelf Luthiers. To my ears there was no contest, and John's guitars smoked the competition. Plus they are SO COMFORTABLE!!!

Looks great John! have fun

Cheers

Paul

Thanks Norris. This thing is evolving with Paul. The next build will have a bowl back similar to a lute....with of course an arm bevel.

Default The adjustable neck

This neck bolts tightly to the body when its not being adjusted. The holding bolts must be loosened slightly when adjusting. The neck does not rock on the top edge of the body but rather slides up and down parallel to the top edge of the guitar. I ran a number of simulations on this before going with this design. One issue I observed with the rocking neck is that the fingerboard extension lifts into the plane of the strings more rapidly than i wanted when the neck rocked back. Were it not for that lifting of the FBE i think i might have gone with a rocker rather than a slider. There are issues with the sliding action too, like the nut lifting (and consequently the strings rising) as you raise the neck so you have to raise the neck twice as high as the amount you want the strings to lower but that might just give a person a little more control. The other issue is that the strings must be loosened before the neck can be adjusted. It’s not a perfect design but I am leery of a neck joint that can be moved with the strings under tension for various reasons. Anyway more PICS

I’m sure you can see the hole in the fingerboard. A hex driver fits through this hole and turns a captive bolt that raises the neck.

Another view

Not a great shot but you can see the fastening bolts. At least you don’t have to take the string off and reach through the sound hole to adjust.

A view of the butt end showing a confluence of bevels and the Manzer wedge which nearly wipes out the side wood.

Default Wow!

Whoo-wee! That looks schweeet!

Looks like a lot of head scratching must have gone into the adjustable neck design. I've no doubt you've got it working like a champ.

I really think that you need to bring this guitar to BIG(er) with you. We can all put it through the paces and break it in right before shipping it off to Paul!

Really a beautifully executed design, John! And you're right--with all those bevels there really isn't much side wood left to enjoy...

Great work--kudos and congrats to both of you!
