I'm at the other end of the humidity spectrum so I don't know how useful my experience will be, but here goes ...
All three of my guitars live in their hard cases overnight but almost every day I take one out and put it on a stand where it is within easy reach for about 10-12 hours. I've never had any issues in spite of my home being about 24% RH year-round. Guitars seem to be more tolerant of humidity issues than we give them credit for. Of course, there are some guitars that will implode/explode in the most mild of circumstances but those seem to be the outliers. I live in the desert southwest of the US (Las Vegas, Nevada) so my humidity issues are about a LACK of humidity rather than dealing with too much humidity. I hope my experience helps somewhat. Best, PJ

For me, 100% humidity isn't unusual in summer, and I used to work in an office space where we got down to 10% during cold winter days, until we got a humidifier to make it easier on the people.

Everyone has different levels of motivation. If it’s high enough, opening the case isn’t a drawback.

For some reason, the parallel argument popped into my head regarding my car. By the same reasoning that if I leave my guitar "out" I'll play it more, I should leave my car doors open/ajar. That way, the car is always ready and accessible and the parallel argument is that I'll then drive it more. That leads to the obvious question of why does anyone bother to close their car doors? Most would suggest to keep the interior protected, from getting rained on, dirty, wind-swept, etc. Few car owners complain about the added impediment/disincentive to driving of having to open the door first before driving their car. But the parallel argument by many guitar owners doesn't seem to apply - the risk of having them damaged, dirtied, etc. is offset by their accessibility. |
