Default Repairing a flaked finish on a Martin

I am working on a 2003 Martin that has a chunk of finish about 1-1/4"x 1-1/2" in size missing from the top. I understand that Martin[and others] had a lacquer problem in that era, so I'm sure that the problem with this guitar in not unique. I, however, have not had to deal with this type of finish issue before. What is the best approach? Thanks for the help! Bill

Not come across one in my location with a known lacquer issue yet.

What model Martin, is it Nitro / Varnish or a Poly blend

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply. The model in question is an OM-18GE. The finish is nitro. Thanks, Bill

No issues with them, just soften the original finish and spray fill the area
