Mine is arriving tomorrow-can't hardly wait. Best of luck with yours. I already bought a gig bag and one of those CF truss rod covers. The Shorty FLE will be the last to get here. Kind of like having the crib and car seat in place for another type of "new arrival"!

It's here!

I'm at the office so I can't really do much at the moment, but it looks great. I'd forgotten how lightweight and resonant these were.

I have one of the little NS tuners that I'm going to try Snaploking inside the soundhole, the headstock is small enough that the NS doesn’t have a good place to clamp and leave it. I also have a set of Gotoh 510Z locking tuners that are a direct replacement for the OEM Gotohs. I was hoping to order a custom inlaid TRC from Nicols Inlay, but I'm not sure if there will be enough string clearance - I may end up going with a plain thin CF one from MacNichol like I think you did.

I'm pumped!

When you put those 510s on, put up some pics! I have the page bookmarked for a set of Cosmo black 510s for my Rainsong. Also want to see one of the CF TRCs as I think the stock TRC is the one weak detail of my Rainsong and almost an afterthought.

A truly talented man you are-- typing and playing at the same time. I'm not very good at either...

Yep, that's the tuner. I'm not sure the soundhole is going to work, so I'm trying it in the same place as you for now.

I popped one of the replacement Gotoh 510Zs on the Shorty this morning before work to confirm fit - it's a perfect replacement, they have the same exact footprint as the OEM Gotohs used by RainSong. I think the MG locking tuner posts increase the break angle slightly, too. These are *really* nice tuners, the 21:1 ratio is fantastic and they are as smooth as a baby's butt.

Actually replacing the tuner only took two minutes tops, but trying to remount the existing string was a PITA due to the curly pigtail end from it being on the stock tuner. Brand new (straight) strings will be no problem to install.

I'll try and get weights and pics up in the next day or two.

Still working on the pics and getting the rest of the tuners mounted (I'm up to three done), but I was surprised to find that the 510Zs are actually slightly *lighter* than the factory 301 Minis - 36g vs. 38g.

OK - a quick bad overall pic:

The locking Gotoh 510Za are a perfect fit using only the existing holes, no drilling or modifications needed - notice they have the same overall size as the OEM Gotoh 301s:

The finished job - this also shows the replacement CF TRC I purchased from Justin at Euphony:

The OEM TRC is a little thick and can foul the strings above the nut. The Euphony one is much thinner with no interference, and also (IMO) looks better than the BWB pickguard material used by RainSong.

I'm loving this thing!
