I paid $300 for a 1971 Guild F-20 that had a repaired headstock break, two screws in the back (presumably to quiet a rattling brace, probably 15 cracks, a little bondo here and there...in other words, a mess.
But it sounds and plays great, and I can take it into any high-risk situation with the confidence that it is hard to kill.

Takamine GS330S, an older model made in Taiwan. Solid cedar top, laminated nato (whatever that is) back and sides. These were apparently $400-500 range guitars, but I got this one for $100 because the bridge was lifting. I took the bridge off, reglued it and it's a pretty good campfire guitar, bright and responsive and the 25.5 scale is good for me.

Least expensive guitar I own is a 70's Madeira A-2 that I picked up at a garage sale pre-Covid. Paid $80 with a case. Put some new elixers on it and polished it up a bit and now have a nice loaner guitar when/if friends ever come over.
Finding inexpensive guitars that sound good is a fun little hobby. |

I bought my first guitar in about 1966. It cost me £16. according to some googling, that was the equivalent to about $21 USD then. In today's world that £16, was the equivalent of about and equivalent to about £253 now which is about $330 USD now. FWIW my second guitar a year or so later was exactly twice as much, at £32 and my third the year (or so) later I bought a Harmony H1265 for £64. (equivalent not £1041 or $1300USD). NOTE: all UK prices always include all purchase/sales taxes/VAT which is currently 20% but was 33.3% in the '60s. Also there was an embargo on many US goods and there was Excise duties and tariffs etc. War debts you know!

My first guitar was a Blueridge BR 40 for 400.00. Big dread that out boomed any guitar at that time. Loved that guitar, still do, my brother bought the same exact model and still has it. Many guitars later I missed it so much I purchased another Blueridge BR 42 12 fret but much smaller because the shoulders wouldn"t allow me to play the BR 40, hence why I had to get rid of it. Paid about the same amount for the second one, later upgraded the saddle and pins to buffalo horn. That little guitar sings and I still enjoy it, in fact it goes everywhere with me.

My 1st guitar (which I still have and play occasionally) -- an early 70's Yamaha FG-110 folk (purchased in the early 70's). To this day, Yamaha makes a pretty darn good guitar ! Cheers!

Most of mine were gifts and I've never personally paid more than $1000 for any of my guitars. If we're talking what other people paid, that would be the Kay folk sized guitar that got me started and cost my mother $35 back in 1973. I still have it but its value is largely sentimental.

Of the ones I currently own, my cheapest by far is a six string acoustic made by Washburn. It is a GA size guitar and has a solid top with laminate B/S. When I played it I was blown away by the fit/finish and tone. It's just an all around great guitar and was on sell for something like $250 at GC.

My cheapest is the Fender travel guitar in my signature, $120 from a Musician's Fiend "scratch and dent" discount (should have been $160) and for the life of me I couldn't find any scratches or dents. And it's a fun guitar to play.
