Cool Have you ever thought of naming your guitars?

Yesterday, this idea of giving names to each of my guitars came. It’s probably the second or third time this idea occurred. I remember seeing this in a few signatures of members here. Is it a cool or crazy thing to do? Your thoughts please?

Example: Martin 00-15M (Coco)

Stupid idea if you ask me. Corny as all get out.

The only guitar that deserves a name already has one..... Trigger. And that's that.

Tons of players name their guitars. Don't ask me why. Please.

Definitely a 1st world problem. I thought about it and then decided I'd let more critical thoughts pass through my consciousness. To each his/her own, so name it if you want to Chester sounds like a good name.

My thoughts exactly, super corny in my opinion, though I know people that do and that's fine, too each their own, but too cheesy for me.

Hi C-555

If you want to name your guitars go ahead. Who cares what others think. I know people who name their cars, boats, guns, knives etc.

I think if it's fun for you, don't worry about others. I'd suggest you don't scribe/carve the names into them anywhere.

Talking

Thanks for all the replies. Four Nays & 1 Yea! Haha...I guess I probably won’t name every guitar I have except the ones I’m really fond of and play frequently. But putting those “pet names” in the signature is another thing altogether.

No but I've overheard my cases being referred to as Nut, Head and Mental.

At least that's what I think they were referring to.

My sentiments exactly. I don't name my guitars and usually refer to them by their manufacturer, adding the model name if I own more than one by the same company. But LOTS of folks on this forum do give specific names to their instruments, and it causes zero harm to me or anybody else who participates here.

So suit yourself and give your guitars names if that works for you.

Hope this helps.

No.

I don't name my car, microwave, lawn mower or power tools. I can't see that naming guitars is any different. I would feel a bit silly. That's not to imply that I am dispassionate about my guitars. They certainly "mean" something to me.

If it works for other people, maybe it gives them a deeper connection and bond with the instrument. Then go for it.

I think it much depends on how "personal" your guitar is for you.
Some of the guitars I have I will never sell... they are not just guitars, they are MY guitars and, for that reason, calling them by their make name seems odd.
There are thousand of Guild owners but "Miele" (honey in italian) is mine only (called honey because it's maple back&sides, a 1977 G37 B).
Ibanez any one? Of course, but "Moonlight" is my own customized precious.
Daion? Yes, many lucky owners do have them, but "Nocciolina" (little nut) is the 1 I've had for almost 40 years now, heavily customized.

I think I understand what you're saying (and feeling) but I don't have that long a history with any of my current guitars listed. Only about 3 years and GAS had the better of me.

Thanks for sharing how you came up with the 3 names (Miele, Moonlight & Nocciolina) for your guitars. I'm still trying to come up with creative and meaningful names for some of my guitars.
