Default Formula 1 ... at last !!!!

Seems like another season of Mercedes running away with the title. At this point, Lewis Hamilton is topping F1’s greatest drivers. He’s clearly the GOAT.

And Bottas sure got a pass for that jump start. I’ve seen penalties for less obvious jump starts. Ferrari is going backwards, Red Bull has the talent but not enough power. Racing Point might be racing for second in constructor’s championship. A slap in the face for Ferrari and Red Bull considering they’re a Satellite team with last year’s Mercedes engine.

Default British GP

Watching now.

Heartbreking time for Racing Point. Perez out with Covid. Late Thursday call to Nico Hulkenberg to fly in from Germany to take the seat.

He was due to be commentating for German TV.

Frantic testing and settiung up car for him, come race day - car won't start!

Wheel banging episode between Albon and Magnussen puts the Haas out of the race. Albon given a penalty (unfair!)

Nasty off for Kvyat blamed himself but probably a blowout.

I'm watching, as well. Hamilton has this one won before it even started. But, wow, what a finish!

Front left tyres disintegrating all over, Bottas, the Sainz, then Hamilton, who wins on three wheels!

Max comes in to change on last lap, lost 1st in doing so.

Pirelli will be answering some questions!

When Max pitted I thought it was a no-brainer for Mercedes to bring Hamilton in for a free stop and guarantee safe tyres to finish the race - even if there was only one lap left. I was astonished to see him carry on without stopping.

Even softer tyres for next week so everyone will need a two stop plan. This should make it interesting given that Silverstone has a very high chance of safety car deployment. Pit stop timings will be quite edgy.

No kidding! I'd better keep an eye on the P7s on my car. Wouldn't want them to delaminate like that on the way to the grocery store.

It would have been an even more fantastic finish if Lewis had pulled over and let Max and Charles get by him before crossing the line.

No comments on the second race at Silverstone? I was struck by the fact that in spite of $250M worth of mechanical engineering for each of these cars, the races were decided by the one component, tires, that are supplied to the teams and over which they have essentially no control.

Well done to Max. Vettel appears to have lost the plot.

The fact that Mercs seem to be having problems with tyres in hot conditions might mean we'll get some close races rather than Mercedes running away with it.

I think Vettel's heart is no longer in it but he hasn't come to terms with it yet. He had a cheek to criticize the team's pit stop strategy over the radio yesterday for putting him back in traffic when his first corner spin had put him and the team on the back foot in the first place.

He is making silly little mistakes, Ferrari should put him on gardening leave before he hurts himself (or someone else). Let the Hulk finish the season for him.

Max is a breath of fresh air - it seems a shame that someone with his talent finds himself in F1 at a time when Hamilton is in the Mercedes monopolizing on the championships. History and stats will not accurately reflect his ability.

Hi, Yes I'll comment. I thought it was a good race!
there are electro-mechanical failures, (as Racing Point discovered last week) but it must be born in mind that F1 (and its many subsidiaries - F2,F3, F-e etc.,) is the "testing bed" for many automotive innovations that later find themselves being used in road vehicles.

Regarding this tyre business, it is widely understood that Pirelli could easily design tyres that would safely perform, for all tracks at all temperatures, for the entire race, but - the tyre changing adds audience excitement and brings in the strategic element, and of course, the opportunity for a tyre changing problem.

Yesterday, Mercedes got it wrong (unusually) and Red Bull got it right.
It's fascinating to get those on screen readings of tyre wear for each car.

It used to be fuel stops, but they were ended after one too many terrible accidents.

It is interesting that Mercedes (and Toto who owns a large lump of the team Company) and Ferrari (who seem to have no budgetary limits) are not always at the top of the tree - esp Ferrari - I mean we can see that Vettel has lost his mojo, but there is something wrong in the Ferrari team and I wonder whether it is in the car's designs or something to do with that chap with the funny haircut and glasses?

There will be lots more variables next year when the new rules come in and the cars will be very different.

This might be of interest: https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/t...-cars/3177206/

I keep spelling "tires" wrong. Apparently, when it comes to F1, it's "tyres". When I try to type it that way, my spell checker 'corrects' it.
