Default Odessa D87

Hello to all, I'm new to the site. I bought a guitar the other day, a real gem. An Odessa D87, made in Japan. Solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, maple binding. I've been playing over 30 years, and I know a good guitar, this thing is awesome. I found information saying that Odessa was made by Dixon, but that's about all. I was just wondering if anyone else has run into an Odessa guitar.

Default Odessa 87

I have a Odessa guitar says model 87 inside of it. It's similar to this one but mine has a three piece back.

Welcome aboard! Odessa is actually one of the badges made by a company called Kasuga, one of many Japanese manufacturers including Matsumoku, Fujigen Gakki, et al, that made guitars under literally dozens...maybe hundreds of different badges/brands back in the MIJ guitar heyday in the 70s...some of them quite nice players to this day, as you have discovered!

That looks like a pretty nice one; if a guitar has at least a solid top, frets not too worn down, and has survived 40 some-odd years...it's bound to be a respectable player.

The Dixon company was the stateside importer.
