These pre-war, x-braced Washburn guitars are likely the best value in the vintage guitar market. With solid adirondack spruce, solid rosewood back and sides, gorgeous detailing like the snowflake inlays and gold filigree, the 5238 is certainly among the most elegant and tastefully decadent guitars of the golden era. But what about the tone? This is a HUGE sounding 000 instrument. It has the combination of dryness and power that really only the best prewar instruments feature. The trebles are thick and articulate, the bass is dry, snappy, and well balanced, and the volume this guitar pushes is really quite astonishing. Furthermore, it is in museum quality shape. No cracks at all, original finish, original bridge. Tuners on it are waverly machines that fit the guitar properly, but original pearl-button tuners are included in the sale. The guitar has been recently professionally refretted, the neck angle is perfect, and it plays beautifully. I stand behind the assertion that this is likely the finest example of this model anywhere to be found. It is worth noting that the 000 size is relatively rare -- most of these you will encounter will be parlor or 00 size. A remarkable opportunity to own a prewar instrument, made with the finest materials, that offers tone and playability far beyond its pricepoint. Again, this example is museum quality with no issues at all. It is truly hard to believe it is almost 90 years old. With excellent fitting non-original hardshell case.
