This early 90s Strat Deluxe Plus has and continues to see a lot of action.

2005 Gibson Memphis Custom ES-335 DOT, second from the right:

It was a surprise Christmas gift from my lovely wife and has since become the center of my studio session kit.

In my 50 some years of playing guitar, I've had at least 400 various electric and acoustic guitars pass through my hands. However, in my gigging life (from 1973 to 1995) I've only had 4 #1's. First was a 1957 Les Paul Special, (found in my gamma's basement, belonged to my uncle) a beautiful 1981 Ibanez AS200, (awesome guitar that was stolen in 1983) a sweet 79-81 Tokai strat (copy of a 54 that I still have) and my current #1 since 2002, a hombrew Tele made from USCG wood.

After cobbling together various Tele's and Strat's from whatever bodies, necks and parts I could scrounge cheap, I decided to do 'one last Tele' (hah!) spec'd out to my playing and tonal preferences.

I went with a chambered mahogany body and a rosewood neck with a soft V profile, 6105 frets and a 12" radius. I finished the body and neck with tru oil.

I've had a treasure trove of pickups in it over the years, but have had the current pickups in it for the past 4 years. A Lollar low wind Imperial humbucker in the neck and a custom wound (A8 mags wound to 12K) Tele single coil in the bridge. I also replaced the tone pot with a tonestyler.

I love teles, but have never been a 'traditional' Tele player. So, I gravitated more towards the neck pickup. Everything I play is steeped in the blues. While I still use the neck pup the majority of the time, this particular bridge pup has opened up a new realm of tones for me.

This guitar was darn near perfect from the moment I string it up the first time. A few minor set up tweaks, a hand carved bone nut and a set of graph tech IOS Tusq saddles completed the build.

It still thrills and inspires me each time I pick it up. When I leave this world, I hope my grandson enjoys it as much as I have!

My Telecaster. Blonde alder body with a black guard, maple board, Wilkinson pickup in the bridge and a Bigsby attached. (On the heavy side but that doesn't bother me).

Having said that, I've got a seafoam green Fender Stratocaster with a maple board, Fender Custom Shop 54 pickups in the neck and bridge position and a Seymour Duncan pickup in the middle which screams play me also.

Why, thank you! The left one is a '74 Standard from Kalamazoo that has been with me since '77, the SG is a special '61 reissue from Dave's, and the right one is a 2018 Standard. They all sound different but the ES-335 is the queen of the roost.

Amazing. I've had a total of 17 in 53 years.

I used to.

1962 ES 335 with PAFs.
1959 Les Paul TV Special.
Sadly, both long gone,

This week my #1 was my ‘58 Les Paul Jr 3/4. Sometimes it my Tele. For a while it was my PRS with Soap Bars. My Melody Maker with TTop PAFs has #1 tone but doesn't always stay in tune. The Brondel Strat was #1 for about 3 years.

It must be my hearing.

This is my Tele build with a Warmoth body & neck. It's all I could ever want in an electric guitar, first and foremost because of the very large V boatneck and Dunlop 6100SS frets. It pretty much plays like my Flammang L-40, and it's strung with .054-.013 D'Addario EXL145's.

It has a pair of Pete Biltoft CC single coils with faux tortoise bobbin tops. My friend John Monteleone shot the finish for me. It also has an Ilitch hum cancelling system that works very nicely.
