Minty 2016 Martin Custom Shop D-14 Adi/Black Walnut **SOLD**
Here we have a fine custom shop example from Martin. Absolutely beautiful black walnut back and sides. Incredibly balanced tone. This dread was constructed much like a Golden Era using Adirondack bracing. Condition is excellent + to near mint. I cannot find any markings beyond some pick scratches on the pickguard. And it still has that lovely Martin new guitar smell.
Why am I selling? I have been playing OM and GA body shapes. I had wanted to try a dread but it just doesn't feel comfortable to me. I always play seated and a decent waist is more comfortable to me. Perhaps if it were a slope shoulder 12 fret dread it would work? For me the combination of 14 frets and dread body feels like a "reach". Adirondack (Red Spruce) is heavier and stiffer than Sitka Spruce, and also has a relatively high velocity of sound. The wood has very distinct growth rings with light almost white summer growth and dense red winter growth. Like Sitka, it offers a strong fundamental, but it also produces a lush layer of overtones. Tops made out of Red Spruce have the highest volume ceiling of any species, and a unique sparkling edge to the tone that retains clarity at all dynamic levels. Black Walnut is a little less dense than Mahogany, but is just as stiff as Indian Rosewood. Similar in density and grain structure to Hawaiian Koa. Black Walnut produces excellent balance, with tonal characteristics that fall between Mahogany and Rosewood. The trebles have a unique earthy tone which records very distinctively. Often recommended for a flat-picked sound and mellow finger-style playing. With its rich brown color and occasional streaks, Black Walnut has a “stripy” appearance and finishes beautifully. Some pertinent specs: Dovetail neck joint Black Walnut back and sides Adirondack top Adirondack 5/16" scalloped top bracing All other bracing is also Adirondack Antique white boltaron binding Large soundhole Modified low oval/PA taper neck Two-way truss rod 16" radius ebony fingerboard Ebony bridge 1-3/4" nut width 2-3/16" bridge string spacing 25.4" scale length Compensated bone saddle Bone nut Waverly tuners Arch top Martin case Purchase price is $2,500 net to me. Thanks guys! Going to give this one another round of playing this afternoon. I really want this to work because it’s exactly the tone I was looking for.

I would like to highlight a couple attributes.
This is a CUSTOM SHOP model, with a Dove Tail neck joint, Adirondack top and bracing, Waverly tuners, and a 5 series arch top Geib Style case. Not to mention some of the nicest looking Walnut I've seen. A unique instrument. I'm singing the praises of this instrument AND the seller, he is one of the AGF Good Guys. That's what I have to say. Thanks for listening. |

Appreciate the kind words Woodbox!! I just finished up a session with this one and I'm having major second thoughts on giving up on this one so soon. Going to sleep on it tonight but don't be surprised if it's off the market tomorrow.

Well AGF I'm afraid I cannot let this one go right now so I'm taking it off the market. It just sounds too good...I mean fabulous. Going to force myself to get used to the dread body.

Is this the traditional or simple dovetail neck joint? Standard positioned scalloped bracing or forward shifted? Thanks!

Great questions. Traditional dovetail joint, DOMLE #3A pattern which I believe is forward shifted.
