It is an amazing build. The tone woods are just a minute portion of what makes the Piña work so well. I have to stop on occasion and look down at this parlor because it sounds like a great 000.

There is a lot that can be done to get a bigger sound out of a parlor, an active back is especially helpful. Engelmann plays nicely off the weight of the Gabon Black Ebony and rounds out the tone which might have been a little treble heavy if I had used a harder Sitka or Red Spruce, etc. It's always a balancing act!

I decided to go ahead with that Figured Redwood and Claro Walnut. In a way it will be an opposite of the Engelmann on Ebony in that the ebony guitar had a relatively soft top with a very hard back and side set. This Redwood set is much harder (for the weight) than the Engelmann and the Claro is clear across the spectrum from black ebony. The balance on this will be a hard top on a soft back and side set as opposed to a soft top on hard back and sides.

This will be an all wood guitar. The rosette is Bloodwood with Zebrawood radial purfling borded in black and maple lines.

Actually, there will be a lot of differences on this one: 12 frets, a new style cutaway, feather weight, etc.

Here are some progress shots of the Pina parlor Redwood on Claro. I did a mahogany center graft with my usual Koa logo chip. The back braces will be Western Red Cedar:

Really looking great, Mark--the rosette looks beautiful against that top. And the figured redwood looks like it was tailor made to go with that walnut! Great combination...

The woods really do go well together. I am trying to keep a more organic look with this and just play off the wood color tones.

I'm going to try a faceted florentine (pointed) cutaway. I'm picturing it in my mind as a combination of a Nike style cutaway combined with the lines of a more traditional, more scooped cutaway formed by the bevel. That's what I have in my mind and I can draw it. We'll see what happens when we try to bring it into real life!

The wood combination is absolutely stunning! And these are such wonderful examples, I would echo the hue of your rosette woods for purfling and binding but that's just me.

That Redwood is mezmerizing. Figure looks like a waterfall or waving flag maybe. Just incredible!

Your wood combos once again look fantastic. I'll bet this little Piña is going to blow our sonic socks off!

I really thought about going with a red binding but, it seemed to be too much.
I think the contrast of African Blackwood is needed to show the body shape better. There will be Zebrawood for top purfling as well. The lighter gold and gray colors in it match up pretty well with what is already in the Claro Walnut and I think Zebrawood's grain offers sort of an organic faux abalone look.

You're right it does kind of look like spun copper both in color and texture.

That wave effect is even more pronounced when you move it. At first I thought I saw areas that didn't seem to match up on the bookmatch, but I realized that the highlights are moving with a shift in light and you can make any of it match depending how you hold it.
