My favorites are the guys who have always used the same brand of strings and the same gauges since the dinosaurs roamed the earth no matter what.
You gotta' love it!

After years of playing I "discovered" round core Sunbeams late last year and agree it was a bit of "eureka". Playability, tone and SUSTAIN is indeed great. They have not completely replaced my "go-to" John Pearse Phos Bronz; but it's neck and neck (no pun intended) when it's string time change on most of my guitars (a couple still seem to prefer the JPs). BTW, since you like the Sunbeams try Newtone MasterClass Phos Bron. They're also round core and you may like them even more.

I have an ammo box full of strings.
I started changing them every six weeks when I had one guitar and used exclusively Fender strings. They went hopelessly dead in 7-8 weeks with me playing Praise and Worship every week with rehearsals, and personal play time. The six week interval kept me from having them go dead in the middle of P&W. These days I have more guitars. And I’ve been using mostly D’addario EJ16’s or EJ26’s. I now occasionally go as long as four months on the same set of strings.

I used them a long time ago on my SWOMGT and liked them. They became increasingly hard to get and at least according to one forum sponsor string vendor, they're no longer available.

I was a stringaholic with my GPCPA4R until I got a set of Martin Silk n Steel custom lights. Tried everything twice, back and forth....Silk n Steels were the answer for me.

Hi !
I am maw, I have a bunch of acoustics and a bunch of different string brands and types to find the perfect match for each guitar. I came to keep a record some years ago to remember what works and banned matches. As I would need the whole meeting time to tell my findings, I will bring in only the most significant : I am currently banning Elixir on my Taylors (Sorry Bob !). I tried ernie balls and will give a try to John Pearse soon. D'Addario light (EJ-16) works fine on Gibsons Ls. Martin MSP4100 does great on Martin OOO-18. I used to like Martin M140 on some other guitars. Martin Co. now put me in trouble as they stopped producing these... I banned GHS but love ernie balls. I am going to try Martin Monel on Loar archtop. My guitar life seems an everlasting turmoil to me !

Yes, they’re harder to find now. It looks like Guitar Gallery has some MasterClass PB’s in stock now.

I started out with Elixirs back in 2013 when I picked up the guitar again, but found them messy after a relatively short period of time with outer disintegration of surface texture.
Nowadays I’m down to 80/20 uncoated EJ11 D’Addario or Nickel Bronze lights by the same company. I’m not finicky because both are consistently high quality (reliable) with NB lasting about twice as long (about two months). |

(Everyone) "HI TOM."
I don't have much to add to this already well-seasoned broth except this observation: Among my nylon-string guitars, I have found that certain guitars seem to sound better (or *like,* if you will) certain brands of strings, while that SAME set of strings does not sound nearly as pleasing to my ears on a different guitar. It is kind of weird and certainly subjective, but I find myself -- over time -- identifying which brands of strings I prefer on which guitars. |
