Default Mulberry as a tonewood

Music Zoo has an interesting guitar on their site;

https://www.themusiczoo.com/products...ustic-electric

I wonder if this is worth taking home to try. What is mulberry like as a tonewood?

thanks

I'll bet you the monkey chased the weasel for that one!

My local shop has a Mulberry b/s Martin custom 00. What little I could find about Mulberry likened it to a cross between mahogany and rosewood (a description I hear a lot about the less mainstream tone woods but doesn't really tell me a lot).

I a/b'd it with a Martin 00-28 a couple days ago and it definitely sounded more like a mahogany guitar: less low end, more clarity, more mid-range. I liked the 00-28 more.

I'd like to know how that sounds. I sure used to like eating mulberries right off the tree when I was a kid.

On a recent build plan, mulberry was the contender, eliminated because the builder didn't like the density for what we were doing. It is hard to find. Some comes out of the near east. Lots of info on it at tonewooddatasource.weebly.com.

As I understand it, Mulberry comes from a bush, not a tree. Everyone around here knows that!

MJulberry trees can grow huge in the right soil and moisture conditions! Don't plant near your house unless you want trouble with foundations.

First I've heard of mulberry being used for guitar back and sides. As someone who suffers pollen allergies, I'm aware of them primarily because they were banned in 1984 in Tucson where I used to live. Well watered mulberry trees in a dry hot climate crank out huge amounts of allergenic pollen. They have since been banned in other southwest cities because they are such a problem.

Does anybody make guitars from Kentucky coffeetree? I just talked to somebody who's having some solidbody electrics from it.

I’d build one if I found some good quartersawn wood. Appearance similar to ash or oak from what I’m reading. I built a red oak dread I really enjoy.

My research some years ago turned up very little on it.
