AER, in my first hand usage of the Compaq 60 and Alpha Plus, seem to have their own tone which I think might be equalization meant to compensate for the driver (plus the color switch). I hear Tommy Emmanuel when I played through one (tone, not talent). It was not for me, and I prefer a small powered PA speaker and a good pedal (ToneDEQ these days for me) to any amp I've tried but even more so compared to those AERs. Using a pedal for control has the advantage of being able to place the speaker for optimal audience coverage while still having the controls nearby.
