Just bought my first Sigma guitar at a bargain price
I'm an adult beginner age 59, and I've just bought my first guitar to learn on.
It's a Sigma OMM-4 that most websites in the UK seem to be selling for around £350, but I managed to get one on offer from Coda Music in Stevenage for only £199. Is this a reasonable guitar to learn on? |

A Sigma should be fine. I am more familiar with the Sigmas of the 70's and 80's but my understanding of the new ones is that they are quite good.

Go for it
I just played a new entry level Sigma dread (DM3?) and it was great. Not just for the money but actually a great sounding guitar. No binding sorta like the entry level Martins but a good quality guitar.

Your Sigma 0MM-4 will be more than fine. It could be a guitar that you keep for the rest of your life. Sigma's are legal Chinese made copies of Martin guitars.
I've had my Sigma OMR-21 for about 9 months; I've given up telling myself that it's not a real OM-21. It's a fantastic guitar that I'm not planning on giving up any time soon. The only thing you might need is to have your new guitar set up. If you are going to take lessons, let your teacher be the judge. If not, check online for guitar set-up and see how close yours is to the recommended measurements. Best of luck and welcome to the forum. Nothing is more important than practice! |

Thanks. I'm sure I will have this guitar for quite some time.
The company I bought from do a check and set up service before they send out guitars. I asked them to set it up with quite a low action, which I'm sure they have done as I can play a couple of barre chords without too much problem. They chords don't sound perfect, but not terrible either. |

Welcome camster and congratulations! I also think the Sigma will work fine. I had one back in the early '80s and it was a nice guitar for the money. Hope you enjoy.

I recently started following the justinguitar course using a classical guitar, but I was finding the fretboard a bit too wide for the chords, so decided to buy something I could play a little more easily.
I'll follow this course for some time and see how it works out. |

Good choice! I have a new Sigma 000M-1st I bought last month. Solid Sitka spruce top with mahogany laminate back and sides. It's built perfectly and sounds awesome! It's very light weight and comfortable to play. The shop I got it from is an authorized dealer and if they ever get in a Sigma dread I would be very interested. All they had was a left handed one last time I was there.
