Yes, I've done so online, many times, and I haven't been disappointed yet.

I've bought lots of guitars sight unseen on the internet. I only returned one. A few times I bought a model that I had never played before.

Most of my guitars have been purchased that way - most recently my Breedlove Masterclass. I've always researched intensely and have yet to be dissapointed. The Breedlove is the most expensive guitar I've purchased and I decided on it for some not so logical reasons. One, I wanted a US made guitar; Two, I really love the Bend area where Breedlove is located; Three, all the videos I heard of their Masterclass were exceptional; and, Four, it was one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. Luckily it's the nicest sounding guitar I've ever played. So while my reasoning wasn't 100% logical, it didn't prove flawed.

Yes, of course! Have not been disappointed....ever, with my choices. I tend to kind of research "whole hog" once I get in place with a possible purchase, exploring all info on line, video and reviews.......reaching out for thoughts/reactions from others, review of AGF and many other sites for past posts and info and builders web sites.
In my current line up, only the D12-20 was played before purchase via a local dealership....all others included a trade with another dealer, a custom build, and purchases from AGF folks who have been great to work with.

From the time I joined here ('02) to about 3 years ago I did it MANY times.
Great way to learn about different small builders

Of course not! I prefer to audition my guitars in person. Even when I enjoy a certain brand, I would never presume that everything built with that label is the right guitar for me.

Yes, however it was not solely for the brand name. Other factors came into play, such as specs, condition, woods used, etc.

Guilty as charged - twice. The first time was a custom shop Martin in 1990 based on a J-40. It was intended to be a lifetime guitar, so I went big getting a 40 series. When going custom you are committed and just cross your fingers about what you will get. However, I had played at least six examples at various regional dealers before ordering custom through Elderly. I would have been happy to buy local, had any of those shops been willing to deal at all. That guitar had great tone and I was happy - for the first 2½ years. Then build problems started showing up.....
The second time was 2008. I became aware of an all-koa Taylor 424-LTD made the previous year in my favorite body shape, the GA. My local shop could not find one anywhere and I ended up buying from Martin Music in TN. They were very helpful, had pictures of each individual guitar in stock. One of the sales guys played it while we were on the phone once I had chosen from photos and gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up! That worked out really well and I still have that guitar. It is a favored guitar will be one the last ones to go. |

Yup, for two reasons: Covid keeping shops closed, or not having any shops in my area that stock a guitar I'm interested in. I've bought three this year w/o being able to play them (or any of that model). They all worked out well. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Most of my guitars have been bought unseen. Oddly enough, the ones I've sold have been ones I tried first, like my first and only Martin, bought for the name on the headstock and which I thought I'd like, but which I put up for sale after only a few weeks. Never regretted selling that one, but my Collings C10, bought without playing it, or even having seen one, I've had just over seven years and that Avalon and I celebrate our 10th anniversary in January. |

Prefer not to, but when Gibson released “The Paul” in 2018/19, the woods, specs, and price grabbed me, so I trusted my SW rep to find one for me, unplayed. Was not disappointed!

Yep. A Guild 12 string in 2000. A Martin dreadnaught in 2008. A Harmony dreadnaught around 2011. A Webber jumbo around 2012.
Loved the Guild and the Webber (and still have the Webber). The Martin served me well. The Harmony was the only one that brought regret. |

Yep. A Froggy and a Santa Cruz. I still have both.
I bought both used and figured I could sell for minimal loss if I didn’t like them.
