Default Bridge pins and string matching

Hello out there in guitar land!! I hope your Friday night is going great!!

So, I own a poor man's Martin - a GPCPA4 Rosewood which I play it mostly unplugged.

I upgraded my saddle and nut to bone some time ago and also have bone bridge pins but I recently got some mahogany ones to try. It has a dynamic that is richer and sort of twangier. I am still getting used to them, to be honest.

What I am wondering is, how much of a factor does the matching of strings to bridge pins make?

I have a set of John Pearse strings on it now which are a couple of weeks old.

I've never thought to match strings to bridge pins. Pins generally, to me anyway, have little impact on the tone of a guitar. I still swapped out most of my plastic ones for ebony or bone pins though,

Stings matched to bridge pins? No such thing.

Even if you mean being of the same brand, I've never known anyone who cared, or any reasonable argument for it besides owning stock in that company.

different pins sound different. Plastic is clear/neutral, ebony dulls the sound and brass makes it twangyer. My experiences

Zero! Oh perhaps 10% in a non blindfolded test.

Anything you change on a guitar will change the sound but bridge pins only a lttle and as mercy has stated. Most of the energy in the strings is being transferred to the top via the bridge so that part of the instrument is much more important. Still everyone has their faves! Mine are the bone ones with abalone tips! If maker has made some effort though (e.g Ebony fingerboard, bridge and pins) I would leave them in. You might be devaluing the instrument if you fiddle too much. That being said it's up to you. The design of a guitar is not fixed. One of the reasons they're so interesting!

Thanks for the input everyone.

I have a feeling that when I put the Lifespans back on it, I will be very happy with the tone. Stay tuned.
