Mine is a Martin D-12-18 from 1978, it has a rich, beautiful full tone, It was my only guitar for 10 years so I played the heck out of it, needs a re-fret and some bracing repair on the inside. still sounds wonderful, but the action has changed with the bracing issue, the top is raising up behind the bridge a little, I need to have some work done on it one of these days. I have a photo, but can't figure out how to post it here.

I have a 1965 Gibson B-25-12. Easy to play and, sounds incredible.
I'm amazed that so many of you play 12 strings!

I've been dreaming/thinking of a 12 string and possibly a Taylor, but hadn't even considered an electric until I saw this.

Beautiful.

Does this mean I have to get two now?

Outer to outer is the easiest place to start (recognizing that, although the easiest measurement to make that it is not the most telling). The measurement from center to center would be the effective saddle spacing - the one that your right hand senses.

Similarly, Larry Pattis and others will cite that although nut width is the most common measurement (and, I'd say, useful for comparison), the string-to-string spacing at the nut is what counts. For 12-string??? Outer to outer is the easiest to measure, course to course the more meaningful.

Regardless, I'm most interested to get a first approximation to compare the dimensions that I'm familiar with (the LKSM) to the Fraulini and Hauver guitars.
I tried to be as accurate as I could, but these may be off by plus or minus 1/32" or so. My eyes aren't what they used to be, and I used a plain old ruler... Hope it helps!

String spacing from outer to outer
=========================
Fraulini Angelina at Nut: 1 23/32", at Bridge: 2 14/32"
Fraulini Annunziata at Nut: 1 21/32", at Bridge: 2 13/32"
Hauver Auditorium at Nut: 1 22/32", at Bridge: 2 10/32"

A Westerly Guild JF30-12. It was my first "real" acoustic guitar and I love it.

Many thanks, Pete. It's nice to see that the Fraulini is fairly open at the right hand - my most recent commission is a 6-string with 2 3/8" spacing at the saddle and it is so comfortable for me that I call it my "orthopedic guitar".

I know I'm pushing my good fortune but...

When I said I'm familiar with the LKSM, I meant to say that I've played one for some time but never measured it. Might you please also measure your LKSM in the same manner for a self-consistent data set? I'm guessing that the LKSM will come in yet more narrow than the Hauver.

I owe you a beverage of your choice.

What kind of 12 string guitar DID you play?
Flash from the past...
my LAST 12-string—before I got the Osthoff I currently play (see page 1 of this thread); a gift from my employer: a 1995 jumbo Taylor 555.
Since there's a dearth of photos of lefty 12-strings, I figgered time to add another to the pile.

No problem...glad to do it. Here's what I get for the LKSM.

String spacing from outer to outer
=========================
Taylor LKSM 12 at Nut: 1 21/32", at Bridge: 2 14/32"

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Fraulini and Hauver guitars, so I thought I'd mention that they are ladder-braced for that "old time country blues" sound ala McTell and Leadbelly.

Thanks, Pete.

Yes, I am familiar with Fraulini and Hauver. I was, long ago, hoping for a Stella-replica from Franklin but that didn't pan out - although I did get my Jumbo. Next jones was for a Bown Stella 12 but that too fell short. I'm back to seriously considering another 12-string in that fashion and am watching, listening, and learning about the Fraulini and Hauver. We'll see...

Many thanks for your help!

As of two weeks ago, my other three 12-strings are on temporary hiatus, while I continue to marvel at the sound and the limitless possibilities of this rumbling cannon, Martin's J12SO Pete Seeger Baritone....oh my.

As I get older, I find that playing a 12 string has become uncomfortable. I sold my Guild Jumbo JF-30-12 and purchased a Crafter 12 string.
I only play a 12 string about 10% of my total playing time, or less.

The Crafter has been a very nice fit and it freed up the funds for me to purchase a Guild D-55.
The neck on the Crafter is a lot easier for me to play than was the neck on my Guild 12 string.
It doesn't sound as nice as the Guild did but for the money, I'm very happy with it.

I have some Guilds, Taylors, Gibsons (actually one of them is an Epiphone), and a modified Goya.

Has everybody here checked into the 12 string count thread?

Default Hohner Eclipse 12 string

Just got a used Hohner Eclipse12 string. Has a med roundback but the back is woven wood, not the same as an Ovation. Has built in tuner also. Really like it. Also a Squire Venus electric 12 which is great also.
