I've replaced stock tuners before with Golden Ages and I have found them to be of good quality. Also upon further research, those are what come on the 15sm. At least now they do. Not sure what year Eric had that were bad.

She's a beaut!

As a newbie, can someone enlighten me on the differences between 12 and 14 fret models?

Thanks!

How does the 12 fret differ from the 14 in regards to where the sound hole is on the body?

Congrats on the nice guitar. I found a great deal on one locally a couple days ago and bought it on a whim- I'm very impressed with it!

Nice looking guitar. Sounds like your bonding with it.

Got mine in last Saturday. Not bonding with it at all. Everyone seems to love this model. I made need to see a doctor.

I've had to have replacement plates sent twice since buying my guitar due to binding tuners. The two plates I have on there currently are working fine but these shouldn't be confused with quality tuners.

Beside simplicity and a general lack of bling on this series, the lower cost of this guitar has to be due partially to the choice of tuners in my opinion.

On the upside, Martin hasn't even blinked when I've contacted them about this and have shipped replacements immediately without question. For that I'm appreciative.

OP, your guitar is lovely! Enjoy!
Yes, the tuners in a word, suck. That might be harsh as the function fine, they just aren't smooth. I guess there isn't a middle ground between these and Waverlys. Still, everything else on my 00 15 Custom is wonderful.

Hey PassingThru,

Can I ask what you're not bonding with? Is it the sound? The feel?
I'm hoping to get my hands on one to try but they're pretty rare round these parts.

In my early days I played a D-28 for many years. Took a few years off due to real job and family. Just getting back into playing. I may be locked into a heavier guitar and the sound of a spruce top. It’s a mighty good looking guitar, but just not feeling it. I’m in the Dallas, TX area. Are you anywhere close?
