Smile Video Demo of my Goodall Standard in Redwood and Rosewood

About a month ago a friend here on the forum sold me this wonderful instrument. This one is a 2013 Goodall RSCSS it was custom ordered with the short scale 25" scale lenght, a master grade Redwood Top, Indian Rosewood back and sides, Extra Curly Koa binding also on the neck, and the slim neck profile. It was built in Ft Bragg California by James and Luke Goodall.

I've played over 50 Goodall guitars and owned over 30. I've owned over 350 high end acoustic instruments over the years. I've been fortunate enough to play some of the finest instruments on the planet built by very famous luthiers. I've honed in that for me the Goodall Standard is one of my favorite guitar models built by any builder out there. It was basically a Modified Dreadnought before Somogyi coined the term. James developed his own Modern dreadnought shape and sound back in the 70s.

On top of this great shape lately over the last 3 or 4 years I've discovered the Redwood tops give you the richness and responsiveness of Cedar but the headroom of spruce plus they are super beautiful to look at under finish. McPherson guitars helped me learn what a great Redwood instrument can sound like.

I've been searching for a Redwood Standard for some time now short of spending over $8000 on a brand new one, I was thankful to Mike here on the forum who sold me this beauty!!

This guitar has just jaw droppingly beautiful tone everytime I pull it from the case and play it! It does fingerstyle and strumming equally well and both with incredible results.

This one has a LR Baggs Lyric pickup installed which I've used through the PA system at my Church now several times with great results. The pickup wasn't used for this video.

Anyway enough jabbering here's the video I did, sorry the beginning got cut off a bit.

Super, Bobby! All your comments are ones I certainly share when I think of my Doerr, with the LS Redwood/Coco and what it brings out for me. Very special the way the redwood soundboard captures the spruce/cedar elements.
Nice guitar!

Beautiful guitar, tone, and playing, Bobby. I agree with everything you say about Goodall's Standard model. It can be soft and warm or loud and brash. Truly a "do-everything" instrument. Congrats on the new acquisition!

Congrats Bobby.
If this one was full scale I would not of sold it because of how well it responds and ease of play. I wasn't even thinking of selling it but I really owe you a favor for the 2011 Standard (Healdsburg Presentation Model) that I received from you that first fateful afternoon you posted it. Mahalo for that tone behemoth.

Bobby that was my second Goodall Redwood/IR. My first being a fine GC cutaway that another friend from AGF, Mike (aka Coastman) bought after I found another Goodall that I love, a GC Aloha cutaway. My eyes will always be open to another full scale model.

You made my day with the recording. Thank you for the ebony standard.
Mike

Wow, what a sound coming from that guitar. Now I understand what redwood is all about.

What a beauty, Bobby! This one may actually "hang around" for a while, eh?

I love my redwood-topped Goodall Grand Concert; I can only imagine how HUGE one of James' Standards must sound with a redwood top!

Enjoy! Nice purchase on this one...

Bobby I don't know how you choose "lifekeepers" among so many wonderful instruments and what a blessing to play so many that you may share your thoughts with others...a gift we all appreciate bro. Beautiful playing with majestic tone from a stellar instrument.

Thank you for sharing, Merry Christmas & I sent you a FB req.

Gorgeous guitar and gorgeous sound, Bobby. Being a recent active member of the list and a consumer behaviorist by profession, I am very interested in your ownership of 350+ high-end acoustics. This takes the concept of "high involvement" to a whole 'nother level -- and I love it.

Wonderful tone Bobby and very nice playing. I have only owned two Goodalls and regretfully parted with both searching for something else.

Great sound quality on your video as usual. If you ever decide to sell that 4.5 Ziricote let me know!
