Back to the trusty Baggs M1
About 18 months ago I picked up a new Martin 000-17 as a new gigging guitar. It came with the factory Fishman pickup which is basically a Sonotone with an Enhance system attached. I just never really liked the plugged in tone. It was passable but really quack and at the volume needed for louder bar gigs it gave an audible “thump” whenever my palm touched the bridge. So I took the plunge last week and gutted the Fishman system out and popped a Baggs M1 in the soundhole. Played two gigs this weekend and suddenly loved my plugged in sound again. Personally I feel like the tone of the passive M1 is superior to the tone of the active M1A. Dang I love playing that guitar!

Always good to find the pickup system that works. I went through a lot of sound hole pups before I found one that worked for me. Now I couldn't be happier. The M1 was on my list but I never made it there although the M80 did come and go.

I've got two passive M1s, so no argument here. One is at home and one is in my rehearsal guitar at our drummer's place. They're good quality, good sounding, reliable pickups.

I've got several guitars with "better sounding" pickups, but dang that Baggs M1 is just a solid, good sounding pickup that's dang near bulletproof. Glad you're enjoying yours.
