Default I've got to say it....

I've been "watching" the higher end used guitar market pretty darn well for the better part of two decades (thanks to the internet)

In the last few months, I've seen a MUCH higher percentage of completely "laughable" asking prices EVERYWHERE guitars are listed.

Are some of these "collectors" who heard they could make a killing finally trying to bring that dream to fruition??

Not talking "general market trends" or economics here. Just used guitars being listed at twice what they will realistically sell for.

Crazy....

I agree with you Todd….it seems to me like things are up about 25-30% over pre-pandemic times…it’s almost like the entry level price is $3500 and up!

Kind of makes sense when you think about it. Used car prices are way up as well. When there is a shortage of something new, used prices usually go higher.

Yes - of course, but as an example - a 20 year old factory built guitar with someone trying to get 40% more than original LIST (not street) price of the same guitar about 5 years ago??

Certainly not my intention - just what came to my mind. Sorry you took it that way

Todd, i agree…the market makes no sense to me lately. Every guitar appears…way high to me. Glad i gathered what i did before the insanity.

We are seeing enough NGD posts to indicate somebody has money these days.

Really? I've seen quite a few at very "enticing" prices. I'm thinking the <$4,000 range.

Oh - there are definitely some deals out there - one in classifieds right now in that range that would be incoming in another time.

Just seeing way more "dreamer" listings than usual

Yep, there are some crazy asking prices out there. But in the midst of this “inflated” market I’ve landed two great near-mint used guitars (see sig) for two very fair prices…30% and 40% off MAP. Plus free shipping and no taxes (they were both private transactions with an AGF buddy). So there are still nice deals to be had. And the listed price is often very different from the ultimate sale price. The market is a wickedly effective teacher…

You are not alone Todd. I too have been seeng crazy inflated asking prices on all level guitars.
I know supplies have been low over the past 18-20 months, but some of these prices just do not make sense.

I am blessed to have my humble stable of 3, all acquired at fair prices.
