Default Larrivee OM-40 vs OM-09

Hi folks,

Would appreciate your comparing thoughts on a Larrivee OM-40 vs a Larrivee OM-09.

THANKS!

The OM-40 has a slightly different bracing pattern that in theory brings out a little more bass and makes it a bit more responsive.

I say slightly different, because the main X-brace is the same and the top cross brace is the same. The lower cross brace is replaced by a pair of tone bars similar to a Martin.

I've owned Larrivees since 1998. I can't hear the difference between an OM-03R, OM-09, and OM-40.

I Hear quite a difference in the 40 series..It combines some of the Martin low end with Larrivee's famous balanced sound.
I own Three Larrivee's in 40 series, and two in the standard series.
Just last weekend I was playing my friends OM-40 with a Moonwood top. Oh my...so beautiful. Clear defined notes.
It all depends on your sound preference. But I truly enjoy the little extra bass the 40 series has to offer.

I do own an OM-09 made in USA soinding great and once had an OM-03R.
Also tried an OM-40 in store two years ago.

My OM-03R could not compete with the resonnant OM-09.

I did not bring my OM-09 to compare with the store OM-40,
but I did not feel it would really compete with my OM-09.

I have to honestly add they may not have same strings on...

Yeah, that's why I sold the one Larrivee I bought with a Moonwood top. I hated the clarity.

interesting

are we talking about an OM40R?

my thoughts on comparing...

the OM40 is satin finish, very understated , mahogany b/s
the OM09 is fancier appointments, with full gloss, and rosewood b/s
and tonewise, very different!

How would you compare OM40R with OM09 tone wise?

Thanks!

I've owned the OM40 , and D40,
but not an R version

I could only speculate that the 40R would be more open sounding than the OM09

I prefer the clarity of my current 2009 D03 to the later model D40 that I owned briefly if that helps any
