Your favourite song of all time
An easy enough decision for me - I think this is just the most jaw-dropping, perfect work of genius ever written. It's a treatise on life itself and it astounds me a 23/24 year old could come up with something like this.

John Hiatt’s Lipstick Sunset is top of my pile, and has been, ever since the Bring the Family album was released.
I want this played at my funeral.

Easy one for me too - 'Aries' by Kaleidoscope. I have to admit to getting choked up watching Peter sing this for perhaps the last ever time at Hoxton Hall. Such a simple, yet beautiful song.

Have loved this song since it first was sung so many years ago. Composed by Sandy Denny, Judy Collins made this song a hit in the late 60's. Having just seen Richard Thompson play this two weeks ago as a tribute to Sandy, the song carries on. One of the finest ever written in my view.

I can't pick one song from all the various genres.
However, as an individual performance of a song, this one by Jesse Winchester I find utterly spellbinding. It's unashamedly sentimental, and sung by someone else could probably be described as saccharine, but the simplicity of Jesse's voice and guitar arrangement elevate it above that. You can see the effect on the audience. |

This is deeper than I thought it was all those years ago.

Although I rarely play it these days because I can no longer sing high enough, Rocky Mountain High has to be my all-time favorite.

I could probably list 100 in 10 different genres, but this one is certainly near the top of the list.

When this thread runs its course, I'm going to put all the songs mentioned here on a Spotify playlist so they can each gets the attention it deserves!
I grew up on the east coast and am the only one in my family that moved west. This song by Michael Reno Harrell explains why. Change "Wyoming" to "Colorado" and it feels like my story.
