And they would tell me if they did play - I introduce myself in the first class as a guitar player (as well as the teacher of my subject, of course!), and I invite them to tell everyone about themselves. Then I often use the experience of playing the guitar to teach certain concepts. It has long been apparent that, barring a few exceptions, playing the guitar is something the new generations are simply not doing except as a fringe activity.
I'm not young anymore but might be young for the AGF (early 40s). I wouldn't be prompted to discuss guitar playing in such a situation, because playing the guitar is such a common activity. Now, if you said you played mandolin, fiddle, accordion, banjo, upright bass, etc., that might pique my interest.

Moved recently. and there's a School Of Rock place between me and Trader Joe's I go by. Small place, but always pretty full of kids and/or parents waiting to pick up kids.

I would suggest that starting on electric guitar, which would have been kinda weird way back when, is pretty standard now. FWIW. Tech advances in mini/headphone amps for one thing.

The plural is 'forums.' 'Fora' is a daft and pretentious word.

I think this was in response to the suggestion of “forii” that cropped up earlier. But I agree.
