I just started yesterday to learn Mississippi Blues. There is also a tutorial on YouTube and the SG tab is on Tab Pro.
It's a fun little tune.

Got to see him on a tour with John Renbourn many years ago in Memphis. Memphis in May's tribute country that year was the UK. Great show.

I imagine he got more people playing through his books ( I still have some with the tear out record) and his work with Kicking Mule than any of his contemporaries.

Priceless!

It's a fantastic piece for us fingerpickers to get our chops round. The version I attempt is Roy Book Binder's, which is a little more laid back. I love that version of Stefan's, though; it's really punchy!

I have one of Stefan's pack of lessons which I bought just to learn that tune. It's not exactly as in the video above, but really good and fun to play.

When the video of the new Waterloo guitar that featured this tune went into circulation, it got a lot of people, including me, learning Mississippi Blues. Great tune. I copped some ideas from Stefan as well, although with my own twists (largely out of necessity). It's a tune you can grow with. I basically have all of the notes down but there's a lot of room for more expressiveness and for subtle nuances to improve. That part of getting a tune down is always a lot of fun.

Stefan is most definitely one of those masters keeping the music of Reverend Gary Davis and the like alive. Stefan will be teaching at Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch in October, 2015. I'm going with my brother, who is taking Stefan's workshop... I'll be with Jorma (for the 4th time!)

If anyone out there is interested in attending that upcoming workshop, better register soon... it sells out every year.

I watched last night. Wonderful. And humbling.

I was working through one of his lessons last night. I often am.

Womenhealers, do you know what he'll be teaching there? I'm guessing this is in the bay area?

EDIT: looked it up; Ohio. Dammit.

I've got a bunch of his tutorials -- one of the best instructors IMHO.

However, when he plays the blues in particular, his style seems a bit academic -- maybe a little too clean and refined -- if that makes any sense.

That's what drove me to learn the song. It was one of those "I gotta learn that" moments.

Unfortunately no one ever actually sings the song anymore.
Some people actually express surprise when you tell them it has lyrics.
The unoriginal is unbeatable.
