Rainsong-hybrid vs concert series
Fellow Rainsong lovers-
I have a hybrid studio dread that I bought from Ted about 4 years ago and really love. The one thing I'm not enjoying is the size, as I sit and play when I play out. I've talked to Ted about trading in my current guitar and getting a full gloss WS1000N2 model and of course he is going to make me a great deal. I've only ever played my Rainsong, never played a full carbon or unidirectional top model. This trade and upgrade is of course going to cost me a considerable amount of cash, so I'm wondering, is there a recognizable difference between the hybrid and full carbon and/or unidirectional top models? I do trust Ted's opinion of course, but he does have a vested interest in me making this upgrade so I wanted to get a few more opinions. Or else I need to find a good reason to get out to LA on business...

My experience is not precisely what you are asking, but how it's at least useful a bit.
I tried a black ice ws body, and thought it was too shrill for my tastes. The APLE, which has the unidirectional top, is much better for my tastes, but still too bright with the shipped 80/20 elixirs on it. With pb on it I like it, and I also like it with pearse nickels - both mellowed the brightness. I did play another RainSong that I thought was not as bright as the black ice ws body, but I cannot remember what it was, sorry. I ended up relying on my discussion with Ted, and I am very happy with the APLE.

I have a hybrid WS. Rainsong's full-carbon body is too bright for me, almost shrill (at least in the WS body, which is the only one I've seen in person). I have not had a chance to play or hear the concert series, so I will be interested in this thread.

I had an opportunity to play virtually the entire series of Rainsongs out there. For ME (and it's just a personal taste) since I tend to prefer a full bodied sound there was no doubt the Concert Series Dreadnaugh and Jumbo met my tastes in the overall tonal balance. There was NONE of the often typical nasality of the carbon fiber bodies, especially the smaller bodies, found in the mid range. It was full and rich and never presented any bit of a nasal character or compressed sound the smaller bodies tend to produce. The Dread and Jumbo in the Concert series had the best output along with the cleanest most defined bottom end along with super punch in the mids and sweetness in the high end. So in the end it will end up one of those two when I get the $$ together to go that route.

I've Had the H DR1000 for a couple of years now, and have been back to the Store in Charlottesville, (Specialty Guitars Plus) to play a H-OM1000N2.
http://www.specialtyguitarsplus.com/...song&Itemid=29 It has never tempted me to get it in favor of my Dred. I love differing personalities I can get from it with different string types. Truthfully, my Hybrid Dred is the finest sounding guitar(to me) that I've ever played or owned. The larger body of the dred is worth getting use to, in order to maintain that full acoustic sound that this guitar has. Many people that have heard me play over the years with my D-28 and Taylor, are blown away by the Rainsong. Personally, bigger means better to me, and the Hybrid that I have is the guitar I love to play the most. I think I probably go back and play that H-OM1000N2 just so I can gloat that I made the right choice. So journey on, and take your time.

Listen to Ted, he is very knowledgeable and has the most incentive to put you in the right guitar. I think the WS 1000 is probably the best all around guitar Rsinsong makes. I too am downsizing for comfort, nothing wrong with that.

I must add this. When I was at McNicols in Murray Utah they had just received one of those offset soundhole models in that sunburst finish. I played it and I must say, about the ONLY thing on that guitar that was this side of heaven (to me) was once again that nasal character in the middle I don't care for (primarily fretted G and D string and such). The bottom end from that guitar is sublime and I've never heard anything quite like it. But as I've stated before it's the entire range that must resonate for me. The Dred's and Jumbo were the only one's to deliver on that
