There are various methods...

This has been my method for decades if I am having no luck trying to shake it out upside down, which is maddening! I always wondered if someone came up with something better. Like, it would be cool if someone actually sold a pencil-like thang with a grabby, rubber tip on it. I'd probably buy one, lol.

I’ve had good results at pick retrieval by shaking the guitar until the pick is below the sound hole, pinning it down with a finger and then flipping the guitar upside down and releasing the pick. Usually the pick lands in my hand or falls out. A pencil with an eraser end would also work instead of my finger.

Switch to a thumbpick and never have to deal with it again!

True, but I don't always use a thumb pick.
Now, since I am responding to this I will probably lose a pick in the sound hole again. Been a couple of years since I have done this and was decades between instances before. And that was after responding to one of these types of threads. What I did was to get the pick under the sound hole where I could see it. Then I slowly turned the guitar over and the pick slid out. Now I think I will grab a guitar, put a pick in the sound hole with a string taped to it to feed the Gods.

It’s been a while since I’ve dropped a pick inside my guitar but my D’Addario soundhole tuner falls in there pretty frequently.

Play upside down as it reverses the process.

Here's what I suggest. Buy one of the guitars that Driftwood Guitars cuts in half, tape it back together and the next time your pick falls in just peel off the tape and get your pick back.
What could be simpler?

Thus far, haven't been able to shake the little bugger into view. I think I heard him chuckle. He's enjoying this. |
