Default Nut for Acoustic fretless Bass

I'm just about to tackle my first Acoustic fretless bass set up.
How do I go about getting the correct slot depths..I usually measure clearance from the first fret?

What I meant how much clearance should I leave from the bottom of the nut slot..to the fingerboard.
