I guess it beats having a surgeon put a bevel in your thumb.

What a beautiful sounding and looking instrument regardless of the “thumbevel “!

I looked at this thread the other day.

Yesterday I took a picture showing the action on my Iris
at the 12th fret, and noticed...

Can't tell on the Iris if the scallops are just from the twelfth fret on down--I imagine not.

But the "thumbevel" is a great idea--if they work, a gift to folks like me with smaller hands.

I love everything about this guitar.
I bet the intonation on it is great!

I used to wrap my thumb around the neck but after an injury to my thumb, I can no longer do that.
This could be the answer to my problem.

For those of you wanting to hear a little more Roger Schmidt's wonderful Pellerin SGI.

This is the one with the Thumbevels, though he doesn't utilize this feature much in his famous standard 2 minutes demo composition.

Looks like a great idea and from a woodworking standpoint very tastefully executed.

Plenty of "how-to" videos on YouTube. Most techs will have experience doing it and offer the service. Some players do it on their own (not me though ). It's often referred to as rolled edges (but not scalloped as the one OP posted). It's very popular with electric guitar players. I find rolled edges more comfortable. Would love to try the Thumbevel.
