Sorry for the break in action. As Brett mentioned we've had a little bit of a life change with the birth of our first child. Also, Ray is working on a few guitars so things are not progressing as quickly as they could be if he were only working on a single guitar. No worries though, mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.

Anyways, the body has been bound and the end graft has been laid in. My vision for the guitar is to have Ray's wonderful inlays wrap into places that they never have before. For instance, the rosette will seamlessly bleed up into the fretboard. The the case of the end graft I wanted it to bleed over to the back of the guitar. And I think Ray did a wonderful job of taking my "make it awesome, make it simple" instructions and putting it onto the guitar.

Now for some photos...

Endgraft looks classy. It's coming along!

Congrats on your first. It's a very special time. I wish you and your wife and firstborn the very very best. Hopefully it won't be too long before you sleep through the night again.

Ray's done a beautiful execution of your wraparound idea Mark The transition from engraft to back inlay - where it crosses the binding - looks fantastic!

Quick shot of the peg head. Ray incorporated the red theme ever so slightly around the perimeter.

Very cool--love the grain pattern of the wood in this shot.

A couple new progress pics. Guitar is going off to finish on Monday.

First, the back-of-neck inlay. Music was my first love, but it is now only trumped by my love of triathlon. I love analyzing course maps and elevation maps. Ray has some killer blackwood that to my eye, when done right, looks just like a race elevation map to me. Incorporating this into the guitar is a home-freaking run if you ask me.

Here's an example elevation map...

Here's the neck inlay...

And here is the completed rosette. Only one angle for now. Gotta save some for the big reveal. The rosette bleeds up into the fretboard.

very cool idea to have the rosette bleed into the fingerboard. gives it a classy and unique look. i see he uses a lattice bracing inside on the back. the instrument is coming along nicely. only got the chance to play one Kraut in my life but it was a world class instrument. no doubt about it.

Mark congrats to you and your wife on the new baby and congrats to you on your new kraut guitar build. I really love how you incorporated your passion for Triathlon with your build. This makes it really unique to you and special. Ray is a phenomenal builder and I got a chance to play a couple of his guitars at the Woodstock shoe 2 years ago. They really sound as good as they look and are world class. You are in for a real treat!
