Default Review: Martin OME Cherry

In Honor of Earth Day - the OME Cherry!

"I found the overall voice delightful...a choir of overtones, fundamentals and undertone that is a joy to behold and be heard."

Default My OME Cherry experience

Recently I was checking out a guitar I was interested in at Guitar Emporium in Louisville Ky.
After playing the guitar I went in to check out, and considering what kind of trade I could work out I spotted the OME Cherry.
The first slow strum where I could here single notes I was not impressed.
Then a regular strum,,, and it was an OMG moment.
The over tones from the strum were incredible.
I put the original guitar back on the wall and sat down to fully check out this new Martin.
After about a half an hour, I knew I needed to have this guitar.
I went home and picked up the trade guitar and ran back to the store.
The first offer was one I couldn't refuse.
Since that day, I have played this guitar quite a bit, and it is in the rotation.
I have changed the strings, and went with the D'Addario Nickel Bronze lights.
Another OMG moment, this guitar loves these strings. The strumming overtones became even more prevalent.
The single note runs were better.
I am loving this guitar.
For me , this is not a do it all guitar, it did find a spot, but is not a do everything guitar.
It sounds great strummed.
When I am in the mood for a more laid back sound, and I'm just sitting around strumming, this is my go to.
It will never take the place of my H&D om m road series, but it has found a home, and is a keeper.

Just recently noticed Jon @ MFG has a mint one of these for sale in his used section. If I was in need of a unique OM I'd grab it up. Nice voice...

Congrats. I am a huge fan of cherry woods and am sorely tempted by this model. Let’s see....

1. IT’S CHERRY!
2. I need something smaller than a dread.
3. It comes with a Fishman pickup with soundhole controls!
4. Spoon Phillips says it’s a good guitar! (love, love, love your written review, Spoon!)

Whoa, wait, wait, wait, wait....senses returning....

You just bought a CS HD28V.....
You just committed funds to another CS order....

Why do I read these forums?!? Arrrggggghhhh.

Hey Indy...if that CS HD-28V has a 1 3/4" nut I might be persuaded to take it off your hands to make room for that cherry Martin OM?

Default My CS HD28V

Not only does it have the 1-3/4” nut, it has the modern MLO/PA neck and a wild Guatemalan Rosewood back. Plus, it sounds fantastic. But, the cherry would be an addition to my collection, not a replacement for my precious Rosewood Martin.

Have you looked through Mark’s inventory at Reno’s Music? You might be surprised at what he will do for you. Tell him “GT” sent you.

Does anyone know if they make this model without electronics?

No. But you could custom order it that way. Then you could add a solid cherry neck!

Recently purchased an OMC 16e to replace
Gibson LC1 Cascade.
Very satisfied with tone, set up,
intonation accross all frets, all strings
even in alternate tunings and with capo.
Still use Gibson for slide but the OMC
Is now 1st guitar off the rack.

Well done Martin

I almost brought the Dread version of this. They are very light. However, the one I played didn't fit my ears then. I suspect I would like it far more now as the dread is not as bassy as most Martin dreads.

If you like it go for it!
