Default Styles on Nylon: Forum Members Recordings

I think this is okay, since it's all nylon stringed guitar tunes, and rather than posting in the Show and Tell forum, it would be okay to post here. If I'm wrong, I'm guessing it'll be moved, which is cool.

The intent is this. I see a lot of different musical genres that are being played on nylon string guitars, either on cross-over, classical, flamenco, or electro-classical/nylon type guitars. It seems like there are classical players, flamenco players, folk players, singer/songwriters, pop players, country players, praise and worship players that all are on this forum, and all favor, or at least use nylon string guitars to play some of their music on. I thought it would be cool to get a cross section of those kinds of tunes by forum members, of their material. I know several pros are here, but mostly we are amateur players, with a mutual love of guitar. I hope to see all contribute something, beginner to pro, that shows why a guitar with nylon strings works for them, and to show the beauty and uniqueness of the instrument.

One of the styles that attracted me to nylon was the bossa nova music of the 1960's. My contribution is an Antonio Carlos Jobim tune called "Triste". This tune played on a classical guitar just seems to say "calm and mellow" to me. Played on a Thomas Prisloe classical guitar, now called a Model 1, small body Hauser style. The last chord says it all.

Please post any tune that you find works well on guitars with nylon strings and typifies why you love playing this kind of guitar. This is meant to be recordings/videos of forum members on nylon stringed guitars, not recordings of others playing what inspires us. Thanks.

Well I hope this is an answer to the question. I played classical all my life. I just love the sound/the warmth of nylon more than the sound of steel. + the classical guitar repertoire is far more appealing to me, esp. the Spanish composers like Rodrigo, or the flamenco composers like de Lucia, Sanlucar, or the Brazilian composers like Villa-Lobos. Anyway, it's all a matter of taste.
I choose the classical guitar at a very young age and never abandoned it.
For the last ten years or so, I'd like to arrange hymns and put my own stamp on it. This is an example:

Good Eastern for you all!
Marcel

Hi Marcel,

Wonderful contribution! You are one of the pros I had in mind who would hopefully post. Your passion is inspiring and your playing magnificent! Thank you so much for posting such an uplifting piece. I look forward to more of your performances.

Bravo!

David

Thanks David. You're welcome. I feel happy here on this forum, now esp. with the nylon section

Well, here I am to support the "hacker" part of your request...... I'm a little embarrased to post this after hearing Marcel and David's pieces!

This is a tune I wrote a few years back.....it was at a point where I had to release my feelings for someone because of some very odd circumstances.

The guitar was one of my old Lucida 755's and recorded in open C....this is called "Sarah's Peace"

Hey, I can contribute in the "hacker" category as well. Here I am trying my best to play one of my favorite tunes written by Mark Casstevens - prolific Nashville studio musician and songwriter.

I don't know that "hacker" has the same meaning to all of us.

Todd, your tune is very beautiful and flowing and well played. A very reflective kind of tune. Excellent!

And Bill, Mark's tune is a great workout in multiple moving lines and you do a great job on it. Very cool tune and nicely played. Nice guitar, as well. That model has a port in it, doesn't it? Kenny is a neighbor. BTW, your other tunes are great as well. Tackling Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins tunes is not hacker material.

Thanks guys! Keep them coming!

My all-nylon album:

Today I play most of the standard-tuning fare from my first CD on nylon, as well, leaving the DADGAD pieces to the steel string (when I play it at all...)

David, you're right... the K.H. 'Ruck' model comes with two 30mm sound ports. Must be pretty cool having Mr. Hill as a neighbor. Tell him I said "Hey" next time you bump into him.
Thanks for the kind words re. my video!

Marcel, Giacomo... you guys are GOOD!

Marcel,

Your videos are a pleasure to watch. With all the views and camera angles, it's just what guitar players want to see, all the while keeping it interesting for non-players. Not only wonderful playing and arranging, but also wonderfully produced videos. Just watched your 2 Hymns video. Most excellent!

Marcel...reallly enjoyed your take on Foggy Mountain and also on Classical Gas. Bravo! Love the slower, elegant tempo....

I agree, and I'll add another thing I really like....you look like (and obviously are) you're having fun. Nothing worse than a video or live performance where the player looks like they are angry with someone.....bravo for the smiles!
