Default Help!-New Tanglewood with protruding truss rod

Hi

I'm a newbie on here but a guitarist of 30 years looking for some advice.

I recently bought a new Tanglewood TW4. It's a lovely guitar. The setup seems good -fret board nice and straight and the right gap at fret 8- but what looks like the adjuster on the end of the truss road is sticking right out, so much so that it can be seen when looking directly into the sound hole.

This hasn't been the case with any other Tanglewoods I've owned or played. The dealer has offered to swap it if I send it back, or negotiate a repair with a local guitar fixer, but before I decide what to do I'd be interested in your comments. Photos attached.

What do you think?

Thanks

Looks like the barrel nut has come loose and is backing itself out. If so, the truss rod is doing nothing. Can you rotate it with your fingers?

Has the string action changed noticeably?

Default That can happen...

I have a similar experience, and that's a non-issue in my case.

Such truss rod movement can happen with dual/ double action rods, when the screw threads of the rod is engaged neither in the forward and backward "bow positions". Here the core rod can move telescopically and inadvertently (due to gravity, movements with transport etc) towards the tail end, resulting in what you are looking at.

In my case, the trick to resolve this was to turn the protruded part gently to make sure that it is still in the un-engaged position (turn it and you won't fell any significant tension), and give it a firm push back. Once in position, you can stop it from coming out again by turning it a tag in either directions to engage the threads.

Hope it works!

Default Truss rod

If it's a recent purchase you definitely should bring it back and have it addressed.
