What . . .
Those are the hoofprints of a giant superintelligent mutant weaponized whitetail, the result of a hush hush experiment conducted by a shadowy undercover program known only as S.U.P.

it works!
maybe they are doing a partial step-down touching only the side of hoof? like when they are standing around and about to move? |

Gary Larson needs to draw one more Far Side cartoon of a deer with a stick carved at the end like half a deer foot saying, "This'll drive 'em crazy."

Yeah, it's a deer stepping its hind leg into the print left by the front leg. You can even see that the very tip of the other hoof point has moved a wee bit of sand as well, so you can make out the four tips of two hooves.
And in my neck of the woods, those prints are small. If I saw those prints this time of year, I'd say it was a fawn born in May or June of 2019. Buck tracks on my land are a lot bigger than that. Adult doe tracks are a lot bigger than that where I am. Mature buck tracks always leave a dew claw pad impression in soft ground. If it's your land or is allowed on public land, get a game camera and see. You can get decent enough ones for $100 or less or spring for a No Glow one for $150ish. But make sure you buy locks to go with them because people live to steal them in populated areas. |

I have floor to ceiling picture windows and my living room is at the same level as the ground outside. I sit in my easy chair and the deer graze under the bird feeders about 15 feet from my chair. One got so use to us she didn't care if we walked around in the living room.

PSA: As we know, deer, does in particular, can be very trusting of humans, but don’t get too close to those cute beasts.....deer ticks/Lyme Disease. Not good.

Tom...good reminder w/spring and warm weather coming soon.
Most people probably realize that the ticks are on bushes, low limbs and in grassy fields, even lawns, where ever deer walk. They fall or are brushed off and wait for the next host to pass by. I've picked them up just cutting the grass (which is kept pretty short) and my worst day last summer, after walking thru the woods, found me playing host to six. john |
