String winder for big tuning keys - found!
It might be the case that everyone knows this but me, but I've had trouble finding a string winder to use on my vintage Epiphone Broadway. The tuning keys are really big and I couldn't finder a winder that was wide enough to fit, so I've always had to turn them by hand when changing strings.
I recently discovered the StewMac string winder. The internal dimensions (from the website) are: 29/32" x 7/16" x 23/32" deep (23.25mm x 11.2mm x 18.25mm) Anyway, I got one, and it fits/works great. It's BIG. No more manual winding. Passing along in case I'm not the only guy still turning keys manually. Last edited by NervousNrG; 02-15-2022 at 12:04 AM. |

Glad you were able to find one that works for you!
I was going to suggest looking at D'Addario's bass guitar string winder taht should be able to fit a bigger tuner.

I'd opt for the new MusicNomad winder. It looks like it will fit everything, and can't scratch your instrument.

I actually tried a MusicNomad -- didn't fit! The keys on the Epi are really big.
Never thought about trying a bass winder. Bass keys are usually really thin, though, and that's the dimension that I had the most trouble fitting. |
