What was your first electric guitar?

My friend gave me his Kingston electric guitar when he went off to college with a heavy tube reel to reel to power it. The only sound you got was total distortion, think Mick Ronson on Ziggy Stardust album.

My first, recent and only electric guitar is an Ibanez ARZIR20FB that I bought used.

Then I bought a new short-scale Gretsch G2220 bass. Er, does the bass count as a guitar?

Hard to "experiment" with guitars without having guitars to experiment with. At least that's my excuse.

Some kind of hollow body with a Bigsby tailpiece. I got it from
Benji Robinson in the 70s... I think he lives in Florida now,
I wonder if he reads the acousticguitar forum?

Around age 27 I played for about a year and a half. Then, a certain "ex-wife" said "you like that guitar more than me," and I had to sell my Gibson L5S solid body. Gosh it was a beautiful guitar. My current wife of 18 years, (I'm now 67), supports my full time in retirement guitar playing as I fully support her horse riding. "Happy wife..."

My first electric in 1971 at age 16 was a 1962 sonic blue strat. After 5 years of classical 'cello lessons I'd been able to demonstrate an apparant natural talent for guitar, and my Dad made a big financial sacrifice to get this for me. I remember going out to a small town/village on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border on the back of his motor scooter, and clinging on to it madly for 40 minutes on the way back. I was able to borrow an amp, and never looked back. The guitar was sold some years later in my "financially-challenged" student days, and a couple of years ago I was able to get a 2008 Custom Shop 1961 NOS strat in the same sonic blue - pure nostalgia at a price (£90 in 1971 and 2,300 euros in 2019...)

In the early 70’s I had a used Les Paul Jr. I’m sure I got it cheap because that’s the only way I could have had it. Didn’t have a useable amp and I couldn’t figure out what to do with it but I also owned a D-28s at the time that took all of my attention. I don’t remember where I got it, don’t remember selling it - of course, I wish I had it now.

My first was a Peavy T-60 purchased new in '81 or '82. That thing was h-e-a-v-y! Traded it back in a couple months later for a T-40 bass (also super-heavy!) when our newly-formed band needed a bass player more than a 2nd guitarist. Stuck with bass for the next 30-odd years before switching back to guitar...

My first guitar was a mid-1960s Egmond, which was sitting unused at my grandparents' house since it was purchased new. They chose that brand b/c The Beatles played them at one point, but it was unused for nearly 20 years. My uncle offered to swap the tuners, if I saved up and paid for them, and some time later, the guitar was mine.

It was difficult to play, and a few years later, it took a backseat to a brand new Ibanez. Eventually, it landed in storage in another relative's attic, who sold it for a fraction of its value in a yard sale. Hopefully, someone figured out how to make it more playable, and it's still out there making music.

PS - I gave away my Ibanez in 2003, got it back in 2007 (just as it turned 30yo), cleaned it up, and sold it locally. I know that one found a good home.

I had a T-60 many years ago. Very cool guitar except for the fat, heavy body. I was tempted to take a band saw to it and make it a tele shape, but I sold it instead.
