Who makes a guitar with a long scale and a 1&7/8 nut- 14 fret OM style or 12 fret wit
Historically this topic has come up but it’s been 4 years so I’m hopeful some additional options are now available.
I’ve been playing some alternate tunings on my 00-28VS and though it has a shorter scale it sounds really good. The problem I have is ease of access above the 12th fret. A 12 fret with a cutaway or a 14 fret (with or without a cutaway) would address this issue. Since I’m considering alternate tuning longer scale would be optimal. I prefer the space provided by 1&7/8 nut and 2&5/16 string spacing but other than vintage guitars and custom builds I rarely see this combo. I know a Furch can be ordered with a wider nut. Takamine has a model (740) that has a wider nut. I know at least one Martin 000-28VS with a cutaway was made. Am I missing anything? Thanks |

**** Close...I've got one with a cutaway. Mine was ordered with a short scale fretboard but they come standard with 25.5". 1 13/16 nut though...Collings 0002H

Thanks ,Dotneck. I’ve been experimenting with 1&3/4 and 1&13/16 nut widths as well and the larger the better. I’m sure that this is due to a combination of suboptimal technique and chubby finger tips. Hopefully my technique improves over time. |

You might consider the Seagull Peppino signature model. 1.9 nut width, 25.5 scale and cutaway. Spruce over mahogany.

Lakewood, or any of quite a few other European and UK makers. Probably hard to find this in a US-made guitar (custom builds aside), but the Europeans are generally pretty keen on wider nuts.
Or, if you are struggling to justify the price of something like a Lakewood, simply find a 12-string you like and take six strings off. Most 12-strings have nuts in the 48-50mm range - just what you want - and as a bonus they tend to be very solidly constructed.

Dot, That’s a beautiful guitar. I’ve never had the opportunity to play a Collings guitar and would need to feel the neck. A 1&13/16 nut could potentially work well with their modified V. Thanks |

I just bought a new Taylor 314 no cutaway no electronics that was ordered with 1 7/8 neck and love it. I wished bridge was a little wider than 2 3/16 but no problem. It is long scale with 14 fret neck. jt
