Seems like a scam to steal the buyer's info but who knows...
The market value for the guitar is around $3-4k.
For $998 I don't think the listing is legit. That's way too cheap for the guitar.

On the other hand, if I had a guitar for sale and priced at $998 and I received an offer of $1100 for it, I would assume that the potential buyer was probably a scam. When some one lists an item for a set price "or best offer" they're assuming the offers will be less than their selling price.

You can get your money back on a scam if as long as you went through the normal channel with guaranteed transactions. The most recent scam I've seen is the scammer actually sends something but they send it to a different random address in your zip code so it looks like it made it to you but it didn't. You then have to go jump through hoops to get confirmation from UPS that it wasn't sent to your address so you can forward it on to reverb or paypal to get your money back.

On the other hand, if it shows up and everything is right, you got a deal to be envied! I hope that's the case and everything goes well.

I was thinking the same thing. Why offer more than listed and not just buy it at the set price?

OP, I hope this works out for you, but the asking price is so undervalued that it sends up a red flag. I would try to make this transaction in person and at the local PD if possible just to be on the up an up...Best of luck, keep us posted.

I agree with the consensus that this seems like a pretty clear scam of some kind. In this day and age with the availability of information on the internet nobody sells a guitar for 1/4 of what it is worth. a CS21-11 is a fairly rare guitar so you might find someone who underprices it by a few hundred, but not a few thousand.

I think you got scammed twice. You bought a fake guitar and paid more than asking. Yikes

I hope this is legit. I played one of these at a local dealer years ago and remember thinking it was the best sounding new Martin I had played (up to that point at least). These are really nice guitars. Please let us know how it turns out.

The saga is over, and it was indeed too good to be true. No contact from the seller, and nothing shipped, Reverb refunded me my money.

I've noticed a TON of fake guitar ads on Facebook Marketplace. Basically 75% of the ads are scams.

So what was the point of the scam? To steal your information?
Or did they not know that Reverb won't release the funds until the guitar is shipped (and delivered if you're a new seller).
