I can imagine the veneer in the opposite direction as Emerald has made many in a similar fashion.
But if this was a mistake, it was a glorious mistake! I think it's stunning and eye-catching beyond the norm. The curve of the grain and curves of the body interact unexpectedly perfectly in this configuration, IMO. |

Trying to visualize the veneer reversed, I think the orientation you have is better and looks absolutely stunning!

That is absolutely gorgeous. I am a big fan of walnut, I own a couple instruments with it. I thought that veneer was “koa” and that is a compliment, it’s just stunning.
I also like it better the way the veneer is oriented now. I had a custom instrument build where the luthier reversed headstock veneer and fretboard, it had a lot of streaking which I wanted. I liked his choice of orientation better then mine, sometimes letting the “artist” have his way is rewarding. |

Thanks!! Both orientations work fine... but I still have a slight preference for my initial choice

But you can’t see it while you’re playing it

True. But if that is what Emerald said on it's way out the door, especially on a guitar that cannot be returned?
Ouch.

Hi Tof,
The new X20 looks gorgeous! But you should keep the Sable too. Then you’ll have both. Some days, you’ll think to yourself “this X20 sounds great and I love the way it plays. Other days you’ll think “this Sable sounds great and I love the way it plays.” You’ll have both moods covered. If you sell the Sable, on those days when for whatever reason the X20 isn’t hitting the right note for you, you’ll wish you had kept the Sable. Just sayin’… |

I was going to say the same as Starfish, at least wait until the honeymoon is over with the Emerald before deciding.

I would likely never find out. Just living vicariously through the testimony of others.
BTW David, I visited your YT page and love what you are creating on your Emeralds. "First Seven" is beautiful! I see an Emerald Harp Guitar in your future.

As for keeping both... probably not. I like to have nice tools but never more than one to fulfil the same function. I have my wooden fav' that sounds fab', my Furch Little Jane for when I visit the family abroad, and the last spot is for a composite guitar. There can be only one |

Double ditto. And no apology necessary, either. Thread drift is a natural part of this online medium.
