Default New Martin Models...

Just looking at the Martin website there are a lot of new models that I assume are associated with winter NAMM. Many more affordable models in the new lineup. Good call Martin!

The only model that interest me is the D-12e.

I wonder if they just replaced a Road Series model name with the D-12’s?

I’m really not interested in the cutrate models. I want the best Martin can build. The Modern Deluxe Series fills a big gap between the Standard Series and the Authentic Series. I will be buying an OM MD.

It looks like some Road Series guitars got updates; nicer rosettes, purflings, fretboard inlays and better electrics. And they got numbers instead of those confusing letters. The DCRSG is now the GPC-13E and the 000rsg is now the 000-13E.

But don't think Martin is making it any easier to understand. The Road Series letters were confusing enough, now the RS guitars can be anything from a 10 to a 13. I guess it makes sense to them.

A bevy of guitars.

Slight bug-a-boos....I wish the low oval HP neck was a little thicker at the nut. The old, wider 2 3/16" saddle spacing is also missed. Or why couldn't they try the wider 2 7/32", H & D saddle spacing?
I also wish they would offer some rounder fretboard radii.

Be fun to try a few.

I lot of interesting options for the gigging musicians with the 10, 12, and 13 series of guitars.

Speaking of the Modern Deluxe editions, I do love that pearl inlaid logo and the wood binding. Not crazy about the gold tuners and frets though. No opinion yet on the liquid metal pins or composite bridge plate.

I’d definitely like to try the slope models, especially the 15 series.

Which of these are the “cutrate” models?

I'm thinking about the D-28MD but am glad Martin is offering a choice at different price points. Something for everyone.

Any one that doesn’t have the best technology, materials and craftsmanship Martin can bring to bear on their guitar building. Just for example, any one not made in Nazareth. Any one with less than a dovetail neck joint. Any one without an Ebony fretboard. Need I go on?

Not sure why someone would feel the need to be derisive about Martin’s lower-priced guitars. For a lot of folks, just owning a Martin of any kind is an aspirational purchase, regardless of what neck joint or fretboard material is used, or what factory it’s made in.

Martin probably sells more of those so called cutrate models which in turn fund the R&D for the higherend models. Martin is more than likely using leading technology to produce those so called cutrate models as well.

They look great but no Jumbo or Grand Jumbo model and I can't buy new Martin guitars from USA dealers anymore so I'm truly out.

Of the new ones, I think I'm most looking forward to evaluating the OM-42.

Me too, Bruce - I'd love an 'HJ-28' - a 'J' shape and size, finished like an HD-28 - but the new series doesn't have such a thing, and the inflated price it would come in at in the UK would make it, like all Martin guitars from February onwards, absolutely no-go. I have two nice Martins already - that'll do, pig.

But Martin's loss will be UK builders' gain - every cloud has a silver lining!
