Did the racket have phosphor bronze strings? They are my favorite

I have a Tak F363 from 1979-ish. It's a lovely guitar, complete with all the sentimentality a guitar that old can bring. I was so proud, I bought it new as my "good" guitar in my junior year of high school. It carried me through college, my first marriage and helped in the courtship of my keeper-wife (just hit our 19th year). Other guitars can come and go, that one...that's got so much attached. And yes, it sounds wonderful!

It takes me at least a week before I truly can evaluate how good a guitar sounds. Probably why I have bought and trades so many.

Having said that I'm not doubting that it was a nice sounding guitar but maybe not quite as good as that theoretical $4,000 guitar.
You know, I’ve experienced this very thing as well. Years ago I bought a new guitar from Elderly that I thought WOW! This is the one! After the first string change it never sounded the same again. Tried many brands of strings, even called Elderly to ask what they had strung it with. Traded it to Buffalo Bros. ASAP.

The acoustics of the room can impact the sound significantly as well. I have guitars that sound very different from room to room around my house. When I have the option, I'll always prefer to test drive a guitar on a couple different occasions and possibly in a different location. Practically that's not usually possible, but it is my ideal. Regardless, I'd opt for more time rather than less.

FYI: It's perfectly find to admit that Japanese-made Taks are simply stellar instruments. I absolutely love mine. (EF-341SC)

I have a son-in-law with the same Takamine F363 model and it's a good sounding guitar. I take new strings with me and play it when I'm visiting and it's does a good job for me until I can get home.

Never said it wasn't. Just offering an alternative view for the OP to consider.
