Nice one Jamie. I should try that sometime.

Regardless (I’m counting), JK has 5 more LS tops available so....

A reverse cutawectomy is a very delicate procedure. I know a specialist in Texas if you need one.

The center joint decor. Keeping things simple, and letting the bog oak have its say.

Curly walnut and curly mahogany separated with really thin .01 maple. Binding on the back and sides will follow this theme.

I can't believe how good the black paint on the plywood turned out! Looks great!

Seriously, the bog oak looks incredible to me and I think John made such good choices on the back strip. Perfect, to my eyes.

And here I thought you'd be impressed with the way I painted in the curly walnut and mahog.

Actually, now I AM impressed, because I thought you used a peel-and-stick backstrip from Amazon. You painted that? Awesome!

Smile Looks great to me!

Looks great to me! And I know that John can do this kind of thing. No peel and stick backstrip necessary ....

Woohoo

So a little course correction. Jamie wants a lap bevel to keep the edges off his leg. Soooo, first step is to remove the lining in the lap bevel area.

Back down to side wood with the help of a scraper

The first layer of reverse Wide kerfed lining glued in..the next layer that will be added to that is bent and waiting it’s turn

Two layers of reverse kerfed ling glued in and rough shaped. Back to level.

Could have been worse. What if I had forgotten to add a cutaway after the box was closed.

As some of you know from experience, and others from reading these threads on the AGF, John is fantastic about trying new things - e.g. elevated fretboards, unique truss rods, bevels of all kinds, unique tonewood, asymmetric scales, interesting rosettes, soundports, etc. John is adventurous, creative, kind, and in my opinion makes terrific guitars.

Ah, guitar surgery--what fun!

Where's a peel and stick bevel when you need it!

Exactly, like Mr. Potato Head. Just stick a bevel on there! How hard could it be?

Droooooool. I put a deposit on a bog oak back/sides set with a well known luthier, and am hoping that he will be amenable to something like redwood for a top…
