Default Cool "not metal" tuning for 7 string guitar??

Was gifted one by an army buddy.

im not a metal guy. im into nels cline, blake mills, jim o rourke, karate, wilco, loose fur, bedhead, magnolia elec co, etc.


any ideas very much appreciated!!

The bottom 6 strings tuned to standard (presuming standard scale length). Then tune the lowest, 7th string to B. You then have the two highest and the two lowest strings tuned to B and E.

Hi t-o…

There is no perfect answer. If I had a 7 string, I wouldn't use it to strum chords very often. As a fingerstyle player, I'd likely adjust it per song to where it fits the scheme of the tune.

There's nothing "metal" about a tuning...

The standard "jazz tuning" of a 7 string is AEADGBE

The low A gives you a octave lower root on any chord that originally had a 5th string root, and it stays at the same fret.

I like to tune mine BEADF#BE - like a typical baritone with an extra high E.

ADADGBE works nicely too - drop D with an A on the bottom.
