I did this cover with two guitars, one in standard tuning, panned full left, the other using a Nashville high-strung guitar, panned full right. I enlisted my grandson, Sam, to whistle the solo and help with percussion at the end of the song. We both had fun with this; I hope you enjoy this! The tempo is really up there, about 200 bpm! +++++++++ Hi Glenn, Looks really fun. Your grandson's whistling is very nice, sounds really really good. Pls extend my great appreciation for this tone and in-tune sound. I always love learn how to whistle, but I could not. 200 bpm is up there, and you made it look easy. Another great work!!! Rene |

Very nice, Glenn!
This was my wife's homework from her lesson, and it was useful to see the chords going by. I don't think she'll be up to your speed right away, though. D.H. |

Thanks for watching and for your comments! Yes, the tempo that Paul Simon used on his recording according to the internet was about 104-105 bpm, but the song really operates at twice that speed: 208-210 bpm. I was not able to do a consistently good job at 208-210 bpm. After a while I would fall behind the tempo. I just couldn't internalize that high speed. I adjusted the tempo a little downward until I was at 200 bpm, and then I was able to keep up with and maintain that -- with practice. At first I thought, nobody needs to be using such a fast tempo. So I recorded a version at 170 bpm. But when I went back to listen to the bass part of the song on Paul Simon's recording, I realized that my 170 bpm tempo felt really sleepy compared to where Paul Simon was. I realized that his high tempo really added a huge amount of energy to the song. So I deleted everything I did at 170 bpm, which was the entire song recording minus the bass, and I started over. This was when I finally settled on ~200 bpm. I could at least handle that. Especially those opening chords up the neck are hard to handle at such a high tempo. All the best to you and your wife, Dave! Thank you for taking time to comment! - Glenn

Fun!
Sam's got that whistling thing down cold. With those good ears, you should get him to sing.

Thanks so much for your comments! Sam does have good ears and is a very good singer, but I couldn't talk him into singing with me on this video because he was having trouble with his allergies. I don't know what's in the air around here, but we are all having trouble. I bet I can get Sam to sing with me on some other song one of these days. He's in high school now and sings with a jazz choir and is also involved in the local college's Opera Workshop, so he is getting a lot of good singing experience. He has a somewhat deeper voice than mine even though he is only 16 years old. I'm so pleased that you thought this came out well! I hope all is well for you! - Glenn
