Default Pendulum SPS-1 as an EQ

I have heard it said the the EQ alone in the SPS-1 is very nice, which I know it to be, but for recording purposes, the SPS-1 is too noisy for me. I recently tried it out to see how it performed for this purpose, but the noise level was unacceptable. This being the case, how is the unit useful as a recording EQ?

I also always found my SPS-1 to be too noisy to record with. Fine for live, but not studio-level quiet.

I found the preamps quiet enough for recording but the eq is a bit noisy when compared to using eq plugins. Other hardware eqs can be somewhat noisy too.
