Mr T:

A very beautiful instrument. Great choices all around. It looks so good it HAS to sound good. Tell us a bit about Australian Red Cedar - its grain does not look like any cedar I am familiar with.

Thanks for posting

Toona Ciliata is much more like Spanish Cedar (Cedrela) than Red Cedar, right? Certainly has a very similar appearance.

Yes, the Toona family is more similar to Mahogany than Western Red Cedar which is a conifer. Spanish Cedar is also in the Mahogany family so that's why is it may appear similar. I have used it regularly as neck material in the past but often the timber available isn't wide enough for tops and even if it is, is too soft. This top came from a very large tree that was old forest grown, naturally brought down in a storm. It was significantly stiffer and wide enough so I decided to use it for this guitar. Tonally, it is really even across the entire range with a warm deep low end and crystal clear highs. I love it!
