Stevie or Jimi, I'd probably watch if either/both showed up for free on Netflix.

I'm pretty much up to speed on their lives and times having idolized their epic abilities for decades and played their covers in bar bands.

I tend to be somewhat leery about dramatizations, though, realizing that some movie scenes are more representative of a mood/time than a specific event. In that context, a movie might be illuminating for those who dig the music but don't know much about the players.

I thought Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story was excellent!

They made one; I watched it.

It wasn’t a great movie, just okay at best.

I forget the title, but it had that little bitty rapper/flute player Andre3000 as Hendrix. He has a strong facial resemblance to Hendrix, but is at least half a foot shorter than Hendrix was. Another problem I had with the film was that the filmmakers must have made a deal with Gibson, because there wasn’t a Strat to be seen, it was all Gibsons.

Which is just WRONG!!

I know. They sounded great on everything they played, but it just offends my sensibilities to see pics like these. I'm only comfortable seeing their numerous trademark Strats.

Huh. So they did. Who knew?
I was imagining something actually worth watching.
I'm guessing the OP was too.

So for making this movie, who would be a good actor to cast as SRV?

Someone who:
- looks like him?
- talks like him?
- sings?
- at least a casual guitarist?

If one actor could only check 3 of those 4 boxes, which one would be dispensable?

If John Mayer can act half decent, he could probably pull it off pretty well...

I love biopics about music icons…..but like any film it’s all about the writing, directing, acting, editing and production values….and of course the story. Some of my faves…

Cadillac Records

Amadeus

Lady Sings the Blues

Coal Miners Daughter

Walk the Line

La Bamba

Ray

I don’t know enough about Stevie Rays life to know if the story would translate to the big screen….but I’d likely watch the film if it was made.

Some musician Biopics I’d like to see made..

David Crosby

Frank Zappa

Jerry Garcia

Louis Armstrong

The Carter Family

Quite a few others..

Ya I only made it through about 8-10 minutes

Now one I thought I would not like but really did like it was Rocketman the 2019 biographical musical about Elton John

I made it through more of the Hendrix movie than that, but I don’t think I made it past the halfway mark.

“Rocketman,” on the other hand, was excellent. I particularly liked the scene where he was levitating onstage.
